Sample/Loop pedals S/D

I am looking for any recommendations on a loop/sample pedal. A friend used to have a digitech? loop pedal that allowe done to record a guitar part (i think 8-10 seconds long) & then it would play back on a loop while one plays live guitar. The fellow at the store gave me funny faces when i asked him abotu it, What are good sample/loop pedals in the $100-$200.00 range. Are there any that can sample longer than 8-1o seconds.

They are ace. But you are not going to get one in that price range. The cheapest in the Boss range (the DD-5) is about £200, I can't imagine it's any cheaper in the States. In my experience, 10 seconds or so isn't really long enough a sample to do much more than very simple loops. It's fun, but you really should hold out for one of these:

For more advanced loops, the EBA have moved on to a laptop and use Recycle to clean up sample loops and then Reason to play them all back in sequence.

(We broke HSA's brain with Reason!)

about US$200. extremely easy to use when playing live, and you can record multiple loops on top of each other, plus it doubles as an analog 4-head tape delay. i never use the delay function 'cause i'm always in loop mode, but i've got friends who are pretty happy with it just for the delay stuff.

that boss pedal for $259.00 is looking like the one. UP TO A 5 MINUTE LOOP!

the akai seems solid, but only has 23 seconds of a loop.

I think I could seriously build a solution for this kinda thing using embedded Linux and some stuff. I should buy real hardware for this and make a prototype.

I'd go with Akai Headrush too - I've always pushed that on people everytime they mention loop pedals.

pj: i don't need anything that fancy... i was doing realtime audio effects stuff on a 100mhz junker pc. a nice embedded linux setup with a soundcard is enough

a fine machine. Lee Ranaldo uses it a lot. I have one but it's broken. know any fixers?

oberheim echoplex is the best, they say. boomerang is also pretty rad, but also expensive. I love the 2-second digitech delay myself.

what bout a well built hardware version of GRM's freeze
tool or any other granular plug in.

a footswitch (grain grab)
and a wah wheel ( grain size move )

i picked up the boss rc 20 last night. i like it so far. its basically a sample/loop hybrid. very easy to use & no unwanted signal noise.i think $300.00 is a bit much, but everyone seems to think it is a good price for the amount of sampling time. none of the other pedals on this thread have the ability to save after power off, this is why i took the boss home. part of me just wants to sell off some things to get a full, "proper" digital multi tracker. but so far the rc-20 seems to do the trick.

the boss is good

the line6 dl4 has a loop sampler, but this pedal is super touchy; I don't know anyone who's had one that hasn't had a mechanical problem with it within a year (mine was completely screwed up but then suddenly mysteriously stopped fucking up and now works fine).

the thing to hunt down is an electrix repeater, which is a rack based effect and is amazing, but the company got bought out by some karaoke machine company and it's been discontinued so now goes on ebay for over twice what it cost new last year.
