I think I pick Bardo Pond here. You?

Ian Johnson, Wednesday, 25 June 2003 03:57 (twenty-two years ago)

well, yeah.

autovac (autovac), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 03:57 (twenty-two years ago)

FSA fer sure. i like pop songs, y'know

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 03:59 (twenty-two years ago)

ESoJ - Bardo Pond are a pop band! I promise! Seriously, there are some damn fine pop songs on "Dilate" and there are even some catchier ones further back; The B-Sides of the "Slab" 10" are great little noisy pop songs.

ian Johnson, Wednesday, 25 June 2003 04:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I pass. Both too damn good.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 04:19 (twenty-two years ago)

bardo pond, without a doubt.

your null fame (yournullfame), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 04:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Was it Flying Saucer Attack that did the ethereal dronegazer version of The Drowners? In that case, I pick them. But only by a nose.

kate (kate), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 07:21 (twenty-two years ago)

bardo pond by a long way, they have a new album apparently?

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 07:44 (twenty-two years ago)

another vote for bardo pond.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I love both immensely.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 09:04 (twenty-two years ago)

but you love bardo pond more right? ;-)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 09:06 (twenty-two years ago)

bardo pond, they are great live...

stevie (stevie), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 09:32 (twenty-two years ago)

fsa for sure, bardo are ok but they sleep at the wheel too much. i always remember my mate jason saying about them "man, they bored me even when i was STONED!"

jon dale, Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Bardo Pond, just. Mainly 'cos FSA were rarely great live.

Wandering Boy Poet, Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, FSA have a cool 3-letter acronym, and I'm all about the 3-letter acronyms at the moment.

FSA. Say it, it sounds vaguely Cthulonic! Fffssssaaaaah.

kate (kate), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulu R'lyeh wagh'nagl fhtagn.

Xii (Xii), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Clear the phlegm out of your mouth and all the cultists are really saying is "Come down now to Cthulhu R'lyeh Motors! Great deals!"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Flying Saucer Attack can get lost in the fuzz. Bardo Pond bring the psych skillz--they are always going somewhere and even if that somewhere happens to be nowhere nowhere seems like kind of a nice place to be. Also face-meltingly good live.

adam (adam), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

FSA, by far, as far as i'm concerned. i was into the 'Pond during the Amantia era, then i saw them live. I was ALSO stoned, and they also, inexplicably, bored the shit out of me. I remember just hanging around on the balcomy of the Knitting Factory waiting for them to finish so I could collect my awestruck pals and go home.

FSA's early singles and everything up to Distance is amazing. I liked them much better with Rachel tho.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesus, the secret Welsh conspiracy to take over the world was right all along! Ffffffffffffsssssssssssssssssaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

kate (kate), Thursday, 26 June 2003 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

fsa certainly, they've sort of got more personality. i quite liked bardo pond live tho.

duane (doorag), Thursday, 26 June 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

roger that knitting factory show, was that in like, mid-96 w. k-salvatore & the brother love band? 'cause if so i was there (drumming for bro love). i don't remember them being especially good that night tho.

duane (doorag), Thursday, 26 June 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I love them both. I don't think either one have done a dodgy record yet & I haven't seen either of them live. So there you go. Can't choose.

John Bullabaugh (John Bullabaugh), Thursday, 26 June 2003 20:47 (twenty-two years ago)

fsa because they they can do the songs and dive off the deep end with out getting lost.

brg30 (brg30), Friday, 27 June 2003 00:15 (twenty-two years ago)

but I will say that the Bardo Pond show I saw was better than I had expected...

brg30 (brg30), Friday, 27 June 2003 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

fsa because it sounds like they do less drugs and they tend to edit more. and fsa's collab with roy montgomery was better than bardo pond's.

keith (keithmcl), Friday, 27 June 2003 02:05 (twenty-two years ago)

oh god yes! i love roy m. to bits but those hash jar tempo albums were a pile of shite. well, a few nice textures i guess. i remember liking them when i first bought them, then going back a few months later and just wondering, 'wtf?'

fsa have a much stronger pop sensibility & you can trust everything up to & including chorus. as the milquetoast pansy that i truly am, having a 'pop sensibility' wins out every time.

jon dale, Saturday, 28 June 2003 01:42 (twenty-two years ago)

twenty years pass...

further is by far my favorite album by either but bardo pond is maybe my favorite live band experience ever?

reggie (qualmsley), Monday, 22 April 2024 19:24 (one year ago)

Both are great!

Ned Raggett, Monday, 22 April 2024 19:35 (one year ago)

one of the coolest things I saw live was when bardo pond opened for Mogwai and Mogwai came out for the final track, “Tommy gun angel”. 5 or 6 guitars grinding that massive riff, extremely awesome
