As a sister thread to what exactly is "jock" music.
For the brits who do not know what jocks are, this is for your own equivalent. I seem to remember a large piece in NME last year on the scourge of the "townies".

Townies rock, moshers suck.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I know lots of younger metallers view 'townies' as the enemy, in the same way that 'trendies' were ten yars ago.

Anyway, depends on the class of townie. Joint parental income of over £45,000 a year- trance. Less than £45,000- The Stereophonics.

...anythbing that's riding high in the charts, and so will get played in their local Brannigans or whatever dives these booze monsters hang out in.

See also 'office jerks'..... usually seen pissed up throughout town on Friday evenings after a hard week at the office - usually (almost always) still in their shiny shoes and Next ties. This lot like anything in the charts, and some UK garage (compilation albums only) to blast through their souped-up car windows. Also known to like a bit of 'rave'... again, Misery of Sound compilation albums only - full of nice cheesy vocals and chart hits by Scooter or Paul van Dyk.

Also the sort of person to be found in Ibeefa.

Mortifying.

it's funny because out here (northern california), the townies are like 5 years ahead of the trendy urban curve.

!!! and outhud and all that "new" "williamsburg" "disco-punk" were pretty standard house party fare out in the central valley even as little as a few years ago... with *gasp* lots of guys and girls in mesh hats *faints* in attendance.

cf: pavement from bleak suburban wasteland stockton defining indie rock for the 1990s.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

most music is now being ruled out. either this means we're all townies or some people are just snobs.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Embrace your inner townie, people. (All my mates from back in Northampton are townies or have severe townie tendencies, anyway: Burberry, knowledge of how to empty fruit machines, football violence, souping up cars. And God bless them).

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 26 June 2003 10:26 (twenty-two years ago)
