Whats with the Air quality?

Why is 1,000mhz legend so much worse than Moon Safari and Virgin Suicides? Is it because they tried to be too fancy? Shoudl they go back to simpler ways?

Mike Hanley, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

After 3 weeks or so, I'm finding it forbiddingly bleak. Lucky and Unhappy and People in the City are rare shafts of light in the gloom, and I do kinda like the opening track, Electronic Performers. Sex Born Poison and Wonder Milky Bitch irritate horribly, and I'm struggling to make any kind of connection with it as a whole. It's going on holiday with me (to Paris!) in an attempt to somehow 'get' it, but I can't help feeling that it doesn't really deserve all that much effort!

Dr. C, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

upon relistening this evening, wonder milky bitch is my new favorite track. i love it.

ethan, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

They should go back to what they did before they decided to make their first record, whatever it was.

the pinefox, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

christ, pinefox, could you stay the hell out of threads about music you know you don't like? just fucking wait until there's another one about lloyd cole or something.

ethan, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sorry I luv luv luv 10,000hz. I try and limit myself to playing it only once a day, but I always fail. It's like drug addiction. Also trying to force myself to listen to other things occasionally. Once I gedt around to buying the Felix da Housecat I might be able to let it rest. 'Moon Safari' just sounds half-baked in comparison!

dave q, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Didn't we have at least 5 other Air/10.000 Hz Legend threads?

Anyway, what Dave Q said. And yeah, Wonder Milky Bitch is the grower here.

Omar, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think my expectations were VERY high after the Virgin Suicides, so obviously I was disappointed. I'm starting to reconcile my expectations with the actual album, but I can't get past the first Beck track. I like the first two songs, but then it just cuts off the momentum and it takes until around 'People in the City' to get me back into it. I can't devote full attention to it on one continuous play. If they'd cut out some songs and make it an EP, this would be an awesome record.

alex in montreal, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

well, i bought it. but i still haven't had chance to play it yet. i must be expecting something pretty decent though, because the presence of, ugh, beck, didn't dissuade me from purchasing

gareth, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The Pinefox is unfailingly funny and should contribute *more* to threads he doesn't know anything about.

A couple of months after purchase, 10 000 Hz Legend lies forlornly at the bottom of a pile of other 'well yeah OK' albums. I enjoyed it on first listen but the feeling somehow dissipated and like Dr C I've found it difficult to get a handle on. Perhaps it's not meant to be 'handled', I don't know. I have an hour or so before I need to get the bus though so I will run a bath and put it on.

Tom, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It really grates on the ears and has lots of annoying sounds. Moon Safari was smoov

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Another vote for "love Moon Safari, new one's only ok". Wonder Milky Bitch is very irritating and my least favorite track.

Sean, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

christ, pinefox, could you stay the hell out of threads about music you know you don't like? just fucking wait until there's another one about lloyd cole or something.

Christ, Ethan, could you stay the hell out of threads about music you like? Because you can't seem to fucking handle it when someone disagrees with your opinion, ever.

Anyhow, I don't like their new album as much as the old ones. It just kind of glanced off my head. I still like Radio #1 a lot though.

Ally, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

that was not only a response to pinefox in this thread, but in the hiphop producers thread as well. he smears his half-assed wouldbe 'jokes' around like an spoiled six- yr old all the fucking time, and i'm really tired having to ignore his little snide comments on every thread i want to contribute to. his schtick consists of 1) oh i don't know who that is, so they are shit and 2) i know who that is but i am a naughty boy and will say, fuck them. he said in the wu-tang thread that he had never heard anything by them, and then loudly declared them 'DUD DUD DUD'. perhaps i should go to the thread for his precious lloyd cole, whom i've never heard anything by, and meaninglessly slander him (only he'd probably die of shock, since he bitched and moaned at the very suggestion that mr.cole is not the greatest thing to hit music since fucking whenever). irrational unfunny abuse to artists that he knows people love & care about, with absolutely no critical back-up = abusive to other posters. i won't mention it anymore, but this is my official take on that. there's room to dislike plenty of music talked about on ilm, god knows i do, but when you consistently rub it in others faces, you can't complain if said others simply want you to just fuck off. besides that, i don't mind the pinefox, and have enjoyed a lot of what he has said on the forum. i'd be glad to read what he says about music as well if i were convinced it was more than just mean-spirited childishness most of the time.

ethan, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wonder Milky Bitch is the grower here.
This has a Freudian ring to it.
Personally I think they should *stop* playing muzak.

nathalie, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Aw, Ethan, pinefox ain't so bad. I know it can be rough if you take all this stuff personally (which I have done myself), but you can ignore it, and at least he's funny most of the time. And I'm sure he's kidding about Lloyd Cole... nobody really listens to that crap.

Sean, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

geto boys did the baby cry thing too, forgot which track, it's on something i don't own. can we talk about the wild style soundtrack in this thread or should someone start a new one? because i want to talk about it.

ethan, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i'm really tired having to ignore his little snide comments on every thread i want to contribute to.

Pot, kettle, black. Except replace snide with hysterical and angry.

Listen, Ethan, what the hell? Quite frankly, I'm none to fond of the man's online personality myself (sorry to be blunt about it), but you don't see me going off on him about how he needs to shut up about things he doesn't like. Good god, it was a one liner post, just ignore it.

Ally, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ally is exciteable.

Mike Hanle y, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i just accidentally posted something meant for the hiphop producers thread here, which is where i should have put the original pinefox rant. i really didn't mean any personal offense to the man, i actually enjoy his online personality, it's just when he continues to rudely insult things i love, entirely meaninglessly, that i am 'hysterical and angry'. come to think of it, that's a pot to kettle, you're black thing too, eh?

ethan, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My God I can't write anything without Naughty Nathalie giggling "He said grower". :)

As for Pinefox: see him as our court jester. I know I do.

Omar, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Another appendage up for 'Wonder Milky'. The rest of the album sounds terrible though, like it was recorded at the bottom of a canyon. Too much reverb or whatsit. Also the mix of styles- Morricone, Bowie, Beck, etc- just sounds like they're cataloging rather than recreating or recontextualizing, a la Monsieur Hansen.

tha chzza, Tuesday, 31 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

isn't pinefox just being a little tongue in cheek?

gareth, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

the pinefox talks more sense than most people here, and he doesn't tell people not to post on a thread.

ethan, you needs to chill. the universe is a big place, a lot of people are gonna disagree with yr opinion.

junichiro, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ethan, SHUT THE FUCK UP. You're a huge part of the reason why I can't stand this board anymore. You're the very definition of someone who doesn't get the joke, doesn't see the sarcasm, doesn't even see flippancy. It's like everything is life and death and serious with you. Have you even bothered to explain once why you think Pinefox is wrong about Air, if you think he's so full of it? If you did, I missed it.

Ally, Wednesday, 1 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I thought it was pretty good. Better than "Moon Safari," which seemed to have some filler tracks. "Virgin Suicides" was better, but that almost doesn't count, seeing as how it was a big fat Pink Floyd ripoff.

Squirrel Police, Friday, 3 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

seventeen years pass...

After 17 years it has grown on me a bit

Rabbit Control (Latham Green), Wednesday, 5 September 2018 13:23 (seven years ago)

stan in the place where you work (morrisp), Wednesday, 5 September 2018 13:50 (seven years ago)

actually,as I listen, it's a dud

Rabbit Control (Latham Green), Wednesday, 5 September 2018 14:11 (seven years ago)

I wish every band made one album as good as Moon Safari.

nicky lo-fi, Wednesday, 5 September 2018 14:17 (seven years ago)

then we'd have album quality inflation and moon safari wouldn't
seem as good
