Jay-Z on Bob Costas?

anyway. did anyone else see this? Costas likes to softball his subjects and yet be really obnoxious with them at the same time, but i thought he was pretty earnest and likeable here? It was better than his uh recent Ice Cube interview (like all his questions seemed like holdovers from 1993) (but classic for the bit where he starts out "when you were in NWA--" thoughtful pause "--Niggaz With Attitude..." continues) a lot better really, he seemed really excited about the subject, and he KNEW his shit - or someone on his staff did, i dunno - but anyway I really want to see Jay-Z and Costas host a show together now. also reminded me of the NEW COMEDIC SUPERTEAM of Ludacris and Jon Stewart. (i'm probably the only one with enough free time to actually catch all this useless shit?)

it did go well (and the Cube interview was embarassing, like Glick but for real), although I sincerely think 90% of that can be chalked up to Jay-Z naming his club the 40/40 club. I've been pretty disappointed with Costas' show really - I always liked Later (when he hosted it) alot: an entire hour interview (sometimes a whole week with) one guest, with guests interesting enough to fill an hour (guests interesting to fill a week). I had hoped with HBO having no need/use for ratings it could be something like that, but it's alot closer to Jules Asner unfortunately. Liked the Ichiro interview alot, but I've got a thing for the Mariners lately (god what a beautiful ballpark).

Wait did I miss Luda on the Daily Show or something?

Ludacris tore the roof off the jernt on Daily Show! He was charming, funny (natch), unrepentantly mercenary, and cool. BTW, Stewart lately has been so "white guy" and/or "nerdy guy" with guests that it's been weird...he's not really that guy at all

In all honesty, I think Ludacris was kind of annoying and unfunny on the Daily Show. I mean, he wasn't nearly as bad as Tyrese when he was a guest, but hey, few people can be as uninteresting as Tyrese.

I wanted to punch Costas for repeatedly asking Labron James about his non-existant father.

Costas: "So your father... think he'll show up out of the blue now that you're rich?"

James: "Nah... i don't know, don't care either. My mom was my mother and my father."

Costas: "Was it hard, growing up without a father?"

James: "My mom was both parents for me. She was great, i love her. I don't know or care who my biological father is."

Costas: "There are rumors he's in jail... or got shot and killed 10 years ago. Will you search for him?"

James: "Uh... no... I don't think about that man. It doesn't matter to me."

Costas: "So, your fa... the man who... your biolog..."

Yeah, that drove me nuts too. But it subsequently made me laugh when Costas started drilling Jay-Z about HIS father...
