Sean Paul, "Like Glue"

Boy do I like this song.

The backing track in spots sounds like something from the Magnetic Fields' Holiday.

There is some really neat dancing in the video.

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I also like this song. Dutty Rock is pretty solid.

adam (adam), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Which is strange 'cause I thought "Gimme the Light" sucked for a long time.

adam (adam), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Such a great song. In the last couple of months I must've listened to it every day. What's the video like?

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Though I'm not sure what you mean in re the Magnetic Fields thing.

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Check the video on MTV.com. The dances they do in the video were all developed by the Jamaican answer to Bez (that was his name wasn`t it?)--Boogle. Each dance goes with a recent Jamaican hit--"Row like a boat," "Signal the plane," etc.

Oh, and S1utsky--I`m workin`on that CD.

cybele (cybele), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 01:36 (twenty-two years ago)

it has a delicious synth sound
the Heartless Crew remix of Gimme the Light tops the original

Keith McD (Keith McD), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 03:04 (twenty-two years ago)

cybele that is awesome!

I'll try the video but MTV.com usually breaks my computer.

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 04:18 (twenty-two years ago)

ps cybele are you emailable at all?

s1utsky (slutsky), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 04:20 (twenty-two years ago)

sean paul videos are all the best parties i'm not invited to :~/

brian badword (badwords), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 06:32 (twenty-two years ago)

if you want to see more, check out the videos they stream on www.reggaesun.com

way cheap and way hilarious.

oh, and yeah, i'll be emailable by the 4th...

cybele (cybele), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

wicked lemme know (I got some St-Jean pics I can email you if you want)

BuyOut riddim - delectable is the word!

four weeks pass...
he's hot and cool guy

daphne fisher, Friday, 1 August 2003 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

This is the best Sean Paul single. That it goes sort've minor key for a bit (it does, doesn't it? or am i really ignorant) makes one think that maybe SP has more than one thing on his mind, maybe.

Dan I., Friday, 1 August 2003 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

What do people think of the remix of Blu Cantrell's "Breathe" with Sean Paul? I really like it. I think I had been underrating Dr. Dre as a producer. He's been pretty consistently outstanding of late.

And again, the backing track to "Like Glue" really sounds the Magnetic Fields' Holiday.

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 1 August 2003 03:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Still don't hear it.

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 1 August 2003 03:44 (twenty-two years ago)

This is totally the best song on the album. But if you think of the "I'm Still In Love With You" / "International Affair" diptych as one song it might be a tie with that. It's just gorgeous how those two songs go together.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 1 August 2003 03:51 (twenty-two years ago)

It's really a shame that "Deport Them" isn't on Dutty Rock.

cybele (cybele), Friday, 1 August 2003 06:03 (twenty-two years ago)

amateurist vaguely otm about holiday-"like glue" confluence

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Friday, 1 August 2003 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

deport them is a belter of a track - a like glue is such a peach of a tune, i've been playing it for, like, ever... also the whole of steely and clevie's old to the new album (re-versioning old joe gibbs classics and where i'm still in love with you comes from) is a pearler - beautiful, beautiful cut of i'm not ashamed by culture on it

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 1 August 2003 08:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Nah the song on the tabla riddim is best, track 2 i think. I love the big skronky bassline on the Buy Ouy riddim, it's great that Sean Paul is an ambassador for all these awesome sounds.

sean g, Friday, 1 August 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

totally - that's why when a certain village voice ilx0r said about something "at least it's interesting, unlike what sean paul's doing" my reflex, "NO YOU'RE WRONG" response kicked in!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

haha - what jackass said that?

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Friday, 1 August 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

"Deport Them" is amazing, I also listen to that almost every day. Also Amateurist ever since you mentioned that "Breathe" track I've listened to it about 100 times.

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 1 August 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, well, the eternal cry of the soulseek-less: can I find it anywhere on the internet?

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 1 August 2003 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Email me & I can work something out for ya.

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 1 August 2003 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait I have to email you? Fuck this.

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 1 August 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard the clip of it on the end of the "Get Busy" video and downloaded the whole album on a dial-up just to find it, and now I put it on every mix cd and when I get a few drinks in me I start a "SEAN PAUL FOR PRESIDENT" campaign. Last night when I was kinda drunk and playing Risk I listened to Holiday twice through, and maybe it's just because the two are now conflated in my mind, but I totally see where you're coming from.

I really like the Althea & Donna sample in "International Affair", is that a popular riddim? It isn't very dancehall, that beat

Sonny A. (Keiko), Friday, 1 August 2003 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Does the US version not have "Samfy I" on the Glue riddim? Because that is the best track if "Get Busy" isn't.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 3 August 2003 08:41 (twenty-two years ago)

seanpauls new video is so good. all the dancehall dance moves r on the video i was over happy when i first saw the video well done love u

lil mo, Monday, 4 August 2003 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Saw "Like Glue" performed live on MTV's "From the Hard Rock Cafe..." thing this weekend. Twas killer. Sean Paul sang the "trees up in my head" line with this beautiful escalating melody I hadn't heard before. Breathtaking. The guitar player screwed "Gimme the Light" up something awful, though.

Ess (Ess), Monday, 4 August 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

as any fule kno, i love this. first time i heard it was as a warm up to a hiphop show and i liked it more than anything that happened on stage that night.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Monday, 4 August 2003 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
i love sean paul he's so hot

jessyca, Wednesday, 24 September 2003 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

When she says "number two" does he mean it in the way that R. Kelly means "number one"? I don't geddit.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 24 September 2003 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

She? Don't you mean he? When he says "Me nah play number two", I take this to mean that he won't play second fiddle to another guy in his relationships.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 25 September 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, just because I'm a persnickity asshole, he says "Ima nah be number two."

cybele (cybele), Thursday, 25 September 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

countdown to patois spelling bee thread...4...3...

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 25 September 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah, I meant "he." Typo, sorry.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 25 September 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

this is really great, love the video, the 'guest' vocal by whatever is the name of the other guy and easily better than his first single.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 19 December 2003 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

^^^^straight up

Dom Passantino, Friday, 11 January 2008 20:00 (seventeen years ago)

I likes me a bit of Sean Paul. Get Busy is his best single.

chap, Friday, 11 January 2008 20:04 (seventeen years ago)

no, "Deport Dem", "Infiltrate" and "I'm Still In Love With You" are better than "Get Busy"

The Brainwasher, Friday, 11 January 2008 20:59 (seventeen years ago)

get busy is alright, not my favorite diwali tho

love like glue

deej, Friday, 11 January 2008 21:04 (seventeen years ago)

Def. not my favorite diwali. Not even my favorite diwali that was a US hit (Wayne Wonder kills) and possibly not even my second fav (Lumidee also amazing) and there were tons of Jamaican sides that cream it.

Alex in SF, Friday, 11 January 2008 21:24 (seventeen years ago)

nah, get busy is awesome. when it first came out i thought the melody was a little annoying but now it is classic.

Jordan, Friday, 11 January 2008 21:28 (seventeen years ago)

my fave Diwali is TOK - Galang Gal

The Brainwasher, Friday, 11 January 2008 21:32 (seventeen years ago)

Okay Lumidee? Come on now.

(Wayne Wonder is better, yes.)

HI DERE, Friday, 11 January 2008 21:34 (seventeen years ago)

J0rdan S., Friday, 11 January 2008 22:14 (seventeen years ago)

"Temperature" sounds good in a club (where I imagine it was designed to be heard).

o. nate, Friday, 11 January 2008 22:26 (seventeen years ago)

"Gimme the Light" is weak compared to practically all of his other singles.
