well, the "san francisco's doomed" cd is pretty classic. i downloaded the sucker, unfortunately you can't seem to find anything by them but less appealing live performances these days.

"baby you're so repulsive," "hot wire my heart," "murder by guitar," "frustration"...someone needs to do a CD with the singles on it that you can fucking FIND.

Yeah, San Francisco's Doomed is a blast, if pretty sloppy. Mainly it's the drummer's fault; but to be fair it's compiled from a couple demo sessions. As evidenced by the "Hot Wire Your Heart"/"Baby Your So Repulsive" single though, they could get it together. I think it was the first cd I played when I moved into my new place a couple years ago. I didn't want to defer the introduction of a little sleaze into the surroundings. They had great song titles - "I Knew This Nurse", "Piss On Your Dog" (fucking rocks), "I Stupid Anyway", "Rockin' Weird".

This cd doesn't have versions of the first single, but has the awesome "Frustration" and "Murder By Guitar". I recall another cd floating around in the early 90's, but I can't at all remember what was on it. I used to see it around a bit, but I always kind of felt like once cd was enough. There were also (boot?) repressing of the singles that weren't too hard to come by.

Did any other punk bands play a Flying V?

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 05:17 (twenty-two years ago)

besides husker du you mean?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 2 July 2003 05:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Did they? I can't recall any performance shots I've seen of them, but then I'm not much of a fan anyway.

Anyway, I was talking about the punk era; you know, late-70's.

duane, Wednesday, 2 July 2003 07:13 (twenty-two years ago)

duane, Wednesday, 2 July 2003 07:14 (twenty-two years ago)

according to this site, "SF's doomed" did indeed come out on vinyl, on coil's solar lodge label. OMG WTF etc.

"SF's Doomed" is about as good as most of those records by west coast punk bands like The Weirdos or The Avengers that never got to record records in decent studios, you get a taste of what they sounded like, but it doesn't seem like a definitive record.

one month passes...
for mr. diamond:

the crime box or whatever it winds up being has been one of the projects that Revenant planned to do from the very beginning. It's the personal pet project of Dean Blackwood. The last I heard of its status was from an email last year from Dean's wife, who name escapes me this very second, which sucks since she was very nice. It's still happening -- the wheels are just turning slowly, especially what with Fahey's death, etc. the last mention of the box in print that I saw was an interview of Henry H. Owings (Chunklet, etc), who was/is doing the graphic design for the Crime set. I can't remember where the interview was, but it might have even been the dreaded Pitchfork.

oh, and undoubtedly CLASSIC.

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 15 August 2003 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

SF's Doomed definitely came out on LP, cuz I've got it. And I've been waiting for that damned box set since Johann Kugelwhatever talked about putting it out on American ~5 years ago in Ugly Things. Where IS it?

flightsatdusk (flightsatdusk), Saturday, 16 August 2003 05:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow! thanks for the info, jack! I hope that thing eventually sees the light of day.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Saturday, 16 August 2003 06:05 (twenty-two years ago)

no problem. Crime is the shizzit. Hell, I listened to them all day yesterday, though it isnt necessarily the best driving music, aggitation levels red-lining on the road to "San Francisco's Doomed".

San Francisco's lost sons are back to rewrite rock and roll history once again. Johnny Strike and Hank Rank are joined by lifelong fan Michael Lucas (The Phantom Surfers) on bass and The Nuns Pat Ryan on guitar. The band have been writing and rehearsing furiously over the past few months and are itching to cut their live teeth at a local Bay Area haunt - most probably using an alias at first - STAY TUNED for more details.

CRIME are hoping to get into the studio soon to record some new material, and YES the Revenant boxset is still scheduled.
