Did anyone else see this? It was for Trevor Nelson's documentary discussing serious issues like how he's the blackest person alive. I'm not sure when it was made but it showed them doing 'We're Ready' on Deja Vu so I guess it was sometime last summer. I just thought it was great how at the start Trev was banging on about how So Solid have changed the face of black music in Britain blah blah and then towards the end it had East Connection completely TEARING THEM TO SHREDS THRU THE MEDIUM OF MICROPHONES!

i saw it - Trevor Nelson's 'Soul Nation'. too much focus on So Solid who have very little to do with soul music in relation to anything else. but the general idea that garage is the modern day UK answer to the street music of Detroit etc. is fair enough. i noticed there was no mention of Talkin' Loud records although some time was devoted to the label's key signings Young Disciples and Omar. surprised Trevor Nelson doesnt seem to have his own label actually (or does he?)

What struck me was that whilst he was trying to illustrate how y'know, we don't need those yanks, we have our OWN soul, all of the people he interviewed sung in american accents and sung american songs! Especially the cringesome bit where Kaish SO SOLID SOLDIER and his mate were serenading him with 'i'll make love to you' by B2M on top of a tower block in perfect american accents! I mean did he not see the irony in this?

that was lame, but Miss Dynamite came off really well despite the naffness of her George Michael duet earlier this year. the footage of her MCing at some club was good.

Interesting article by Terry Christian (yes, him) on how Soul Nation is too London focussed. I don't know enough to tell if he is right on all points, but i was impressed with his knowledge

The hidden message of Trevor Nelson's Soul Nation- Jazzy B invented everything.

And that Christian article, whilst written by a complete prick, is OTM.
