I think it's marvellous. Uberclassic.

one of the greatest chamber pop records ever made. michael head's masterpiece. the production and arrangements are superb. Someone on tangents said these songs are so timeless you could almost imagine robin hood singing them in sherwood forest and I know what he meant.

And yet it could only have been recorded now. I love the way the guitar, though electric mostly, is used as an obviosuly stringed instrument, as if it's part of the quartet, with the quartet as it's bedrock and the guitar as te solo voice. There's just so much fucking and care in the arrangements. Awesome, awesome record.

Agreed, it's fantastic and beautiful and the best thing he's done. Certainly miles ahead of HMS Fable.

Noticed that Shack have a new LP out soon too. There's an advert in Uncut for it. I wondered where they had disappeared to.

Ain't nothing I can say Nick doesn't say better, above. Gorgeously out-of-time without being in any way "retro." And yeah, it's *miles* ahead of HMS Fable (which I don't particularly like...those big ugly Oasis moments piss on the entire record for me,) but not necessarily ahead of "Waterpistol," which I think is just as good.

"There's just so much fucking and care..." was what it was meant to say before html ate the 'class' and made it look like a sex record.

I too agree with everyone's comments on the Michael Head album. It's a shame that it's so hard to track down nowadays.

Mark, did the ad in Uncut give a release date? Or a record label? I'm very interested in a new Shack album.

html hates 'care'.

Classic, just for that moment when Glynis and Jacqui explodes into that insanely catchy, brilliantly truncated guitar solo.

Jonathon, the new Shack record is called Here's Tom With The Weather, released August 11th on a label called North Country. Their website is www.shackgroup.com

one month passes...
Sirendisc.com (which is NOT a good CD store, from what I've been told, but is pretty good about future releases) says that this album will be re-released on August 18.
