The important thing to remember is that he produced and arranged his stuff, and was the writer on most of the hits. All his albums in the run of I've Got So Much to Give through Sings for Someone You Love are great, worthwhile listens. Hell, the ones after that are probably decent but I've never heard them. That's what, eight solid albums in five years on which he was in complete control? What a great career.
The one-two punch of "Playing Your Game, Baby" and "It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me" at the beginning of Sings for Someone You Love is as good as music gets.
