writing new songs for upcoming album, even though we don't have the money to record it properly. got nearly 20 new songs, almost entirely all better than everything on the last record.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Saturday, 5 July 2003 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm writing songs. I'll probably get around to recording them in, oh, six years.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 5 July 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I just wrote and mixed a piece to give to Larry Heard as a gift when he dj's here in NYC on 7/17. Lots of ARP melodies, deep fuzzy bass and Trax-type drum programming. Next will be my "Paisley Park Overrun By Machines" project - an ep, maybe - that'll hopefully be out in some form by Spring.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Saturday, 5 July 2003 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

even more bootlegs that will never be finished

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 5 July 2003 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

There was a thread like this a couple months ago, and it's clear
there's some major talents here. People who are ready for the
bigtime.

I definitely DO NOT fall into that category. Which is not
to say that I don't have talent. Here's the link to my online
songs, all written and recorded over the last month or so:

Avoid this if you hate acoustic guitar.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Saturday, 5 July 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

My band the Subterranean Horses just spent the last two nights in a little recording studio doing the drums, guitar, and bass for our debut self-titled 5-song EP. We're thrashy messed-up metal/punk in the style of Jesus Lizard meets Voivod or Drive Like Jehu meets Motorhead. Singer's still got to go back next week to do vox cuz he's got a busted-up throat at the moment. Also, our drummer's going to sample in a new snare sound to his parts because he found out he's displeased with the way it ended up sounding almost like a piccolo.

Famous Athlete, Saturday, 5 July 2003 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Chaki, we should talk about doing a record. I'm free up post-tour.

Xii (Xii), Saturday, 5 July 2003 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I recorded 8 songs today in a 90 degree garage. I feel like I have been boiled, but the recordings turned out pretty well. Our plans are to do some vocal and guitar overdubs over the next ten days or so and then try to get some mixes before the end of the month. These recordings are just to do a small run CDR for getting some gigs and to give to friends etc.

I've also got some things working on my sampler, but that is a bit of a different thing. I'm definitely going to scope some drum samples out of this session, as we did the bass/guitar direct and recorded with headphones, so the drums don't have any bleed.

Squirrel_Police: Maaaaaaan...You're crazy if you think that was lacking! Admittedly, I only listened to She Burned My House Down twice, but it is pretty damn haunting.

As for me, if I can find someone nice enough to loan me an amp sometime in the next month, I might get around to recording a lil' sumtn' sumtn'.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Sunday, 6 July 2003 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 6 July 2003 03:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Chaki, we should talk about doing a record. I'm free up post-tour.

chaki (chaki), Sunday, 6 July 2003 06:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually it was Jon (and, indirectly, Todd) who introduced me to your stuff. But you can blame ilxor if you want.

Xii (Xii), Sunday, 6 July 2003 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

chaki (chaki), Sunday, 6 July 2003 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Already did.

Xii (Xii), Monday, 7 July 2003 04:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I am going to record scratch vocals tonight. I've got some pretty impressive harmony arrangements in my head that I'm dying to get down on tape (or hard disk as the case may be). And we're going to be finishing the tracks in a Proper Studio in September! Wooo!

kate (kate), Monday, 7 July 2003 07:22 (twenty-two years ago)

So you hear harmonies in your head? That's a nice gift.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Monday, 7 July 2003 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I hear whole arrangements in my head, four-part harmonies and counter-melodies and all. I often think of it as an annoying curse. Especially when I'm stuck in the middle of the country without even a tape recorder, let alone a 4-track to put them down!
