I used to start with Todd Rundgren's "Sounds of the Studio" skit from Something/Anything? or one of George Carlin's shpeils that starts out "This recording is brought to you by the following organizations..."

That hidden intro thingy by UNKLE

scottjames23 (worrysome-man), Monday, 7 July 2003 10:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the idea of starting more than one compilation tape with the same track is kind of weird.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 7 July 2003 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

"You know, I used to dream about this when I was a little boy - I never thought it would end up this way - drums"

etc, Monday, 7 July 2003 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

If I mailed one to Seattle and one to Key West...neither one need know I cheated by re-using the same cheesy idea.

also, the intro and outro to DRI's "Madman" skit makes a great beginning and ending pair (if and ONLY if you edit it really really close.)

etc what's that from ?

piscesboy, Monday, 7 July 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

It's from the breakdown in the middle of 'Like I Love You' by Justin Timberlake. And it's such a good idea for a mixtape intro, I'm going to steal it as my own idea.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Monday, 7 July 2003 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I prefer snippets of dialogue from various films, but failing that.....

- "Chicken" by the Senseless Things (all twenty-five seconds of it)
- "Jahya" by Skinny Puppy

A friend of mine made a deftly crafted mix tape for me a number of years back and kicked it off with the sound of Sting being shot seven times in the chest just during the opening bars of "Fields of Gold," which he pastiched together with sound snippets from "Scarface," I believe. it was genius, and I've co-opted it several times since.

"never gonna get it"-en vogue

Felcher (Felcher), Monday, 7 July 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

TV Eye. What's better than Iggy's LAAWD!?

ben welsh (benwelsh), Monday, 7 July 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Air - Playground Love
New Order - Age Of Consent

Perfect openers.

Sam Bloch, Monday, 7 July 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Yer dead-right on "Age of Consent." Something about Peter Hook's bass just annoucing the arrival of tunes with authority!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 7 July 2003 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

"The Days Of Swine And Roses" by My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult because it starts with the a New Order bass line played through a filter of pure evil.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 7 July 2003 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

the "i love donkey, donkey don't lie" song from weebl & bob

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

"A New Career in a New Town"

PS Weird or not, for about 5 years any extra space at the end of a side would get as much of "The Wonder of You" as'd fit.

It got funnier after a while. Really.

brian nemtusak (sanlazaro), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:39 (twenty-two years ago)

gbv - "fair touching" is always a good opener

brian - is that the Baptiste song?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

esj: Which d'you mean? In either case we're talking about a Jan. 8 birthday boy ...

brian nemtusak (sanlazaro), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 01:12 (twenty-two years ago)

"A new career..."

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 01:13 (twenty-two years ago)

That'd be Laughing Dave ...

brian nemtusak (sanlazaro), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 01:26 (twenty-two years ago)

"Gold Soundz" by Pavement gets the party started quickly. You could start the mix right with several three-minute (indie) pop ditties.

nader (nader), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 01:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Not several, "just about any" is what I meant.
