Is it really even a contest?

Personally, I think it's a bit of a Nono to pun on the name for yr own cred. Bad! Bad! Bad!

Didn't we already do this? In any event, it's incredibly presumptious.

I'm the guilty party who started a similar thread a few weeks ago. I kinda, sorta implied thet YES NY held its own against No NY. Very stupid assertion on my part. Even though I still say YES NY has its merits and is actually quite fun to listen to, in no way does it come close to the seminal NO NY.

I prefer the ovarian MAYBE NY.

no new york is a seminal collection only to noise and experimental enthusiasts. your average indie kid these days has no clue about plenty of the groups on no new york and if they heard both, they'd probably choose yes new york. but no new york will stand the test of time critically as a document, while i wouldn't be surprised if yes new york joined the swell of used v/a crap backlog. part of no new york's charm (?) is that it's out of print and hard to come by and so is a lot of the bands that are on it to a degree. you'll be able to find the strokes and the rapture in the years to come. etc.

Perhaps Providence seems like it might work with lots of bulb/load/lightning bolt, etc. stuff.

CONFESSIONS.

I've still never heard No New York - and seeing that I wasn't even born when it was released, I'll expect retrospective bliss, ah.

Threads like this get me excited because some old rock critic, and/or pop music phreak is going to tell me that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs ain't no good cause they 'just ripping off the past', maaannnn.

I get drunk with friends, dance around like a lunatic to It This It?, never listen to ESG and feel irrelevant.

Sorry for being a cultural dupe, but I'm just yr average indie kid.

i don't anyone's complaining about the songs per se, but Yes New York is a hell of a lot more "Independent Top 20" than it is NNY

i mean, a 2000-era Nuggets wouldn't get away with being all Hives and Vines

part of my obsession with finding no new york was indeed the fact it was out of print. but then i found it in tokyo and became even more obsessed with it. it's a record i come back to and discover new things on it. i can't remember who's opposed to re-issueing it... it's shitty because it's a classick record.
