I picked up the Jessica Bailiff/Alan Sparhawk and Elizabeth Mitchell/Fred Thomas 7"'s but I can't find any information on Ypsilanti other than it's run by Fred Thomas who plays in a band called Saturday Looks Good To Me. Can anyone shed any light on this label i.e. whether it still exists, what else got released, did they have loveable hand-screened covers too, and where can I find them?

and can we eat them?

joan vich (joan vich), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

i've got a Teach Me Tiger 7" on Ypsilanti, and i think they did an Aislers Set/Fairways split too (that may be wrong, i'd need to check). i got them at Insound and Tonevendor respectively.

if you can afford it, i'd call Encore Recordings in Ann Arbor, MI.

you can also contact them thru their webpage at http://www.encorerecordings.com/

They would have a VERY GOOD idea of what Fred Thomas is up to. Trust me on this.

also, Fred Thomas has down stuff with Flashpapr, His Name is Alive, and various other Ann Arbor/Ypsi/Detroit fun.

Ask them to keep an eye peeled for Toystore's Jazz For Twee while you're at it.

Another thread with "Ypsilanti" in it!!!

If you talk to Doug, please tell him I'll be in soon.

i think doug can go for 6 months -> 1 year without getting a haircut. it's kinda interesting, as i've seen him around for a good half-decade plus, and never seen the guy with short/managable hair. hmm.

Mr. Thomas emailed me the following catalog last August, so it may be a bit out of date - I would email him before sending any money, just to make sure:

Of the above, I only have Do What You Must Do by Flashpapr (lovely music, but the vocals are hard to swallow), and the self-titled Saturday Looks Good to Me, which you MUST get. It's one of those discs that won't leave your player for weeks. I mean, here are some lyrics from "Ambulance":

Somewhere the ghosts of factory workers dance
with the ghosts of kids who never had a chance
and we still hear it out our window every night
Like a fistfight in an ambulance
