who should he sign to stay in the spirit of the original?

His coke dealer.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh.

Loved Casablanca Records, but I doubt this relaunch could approach the original in any way, shape or form. Why bother?

"I went to the clubs, and I realized people needed good music", Neil Bogart explained to a 'Newsweek' reporter in 1979. "They were tired of guitarists playing to their amplifiers. They wanted to be the stars!"

Wonder what Gene Simmons thinks about this.

I wonder if the members of Angel are getting optimistic.

Sounds like we have a modern boy band right there! Um, sorta.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 01:35 (twenty-two years ago)

or NWA

Tad (llamasfur), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 01:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave 225 is OTM, but outside of that, I think he should see whether electro stuff has wider appeal for the U.S. - Tiga, maybe?

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 01:52 (twenty-two years ago)

(this is completely awesome news, by the way, please please please let him keep the exact same logo/label & make all the artists use it for the CD faces)

If KISS didn't get a new label recently, you'd bet your ass they'd get on. I used to love them, but lets be honest, those money whores would do anything to resurrect popularity of the past. But as for Mattola resurrecting it, its a cool sentiment, I suppose. From my knowledge of KISS and their history, Neil Bogart, Casablanca's founder (who died of cancer in the early 80's) was supposed to be a great guy in his generosity, down to earth attitude, and eagerness to see his bands succeed for more than just monetary reasons. I would hope that the label could be known for this today.

Bryan Moore, Wednesday, 9 July 2003 05:42 (twenty-two years ago)

supposedly there was a Bogart biopic in the works

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 07:56 (twenty-two years ago)

and somehow resurrecting the Casablanca brand cause me more fret than resurrecting the Creem brand

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 07:56 (twenty-two years ago)

who should he sign to stay in the spirit of the original?
He should do a set of Solo Records for each member of the Backstreet Boyz...and each should be a full head shot on a black background...and they should each be wearing Kiss makeup.
...and while he's at it, unfreeze Robert Stigwood from cryonic suspension and have him use the Boyz for a crummy movie based on the Stones "Exile on Main Street"!
