Willie Bobo C/D

Every time I mention the words "Willie Bobo" to my friends, they assume I want a drink with strange gelatin balls mixed in. Anyway, I think this guy's records are pretty great, at least the ones I have: Juicy, Spanish Grease, Hell of An Act To Follow, Uno Dos Tres...I also like his contributions to the Herbie Hancock album Inventions and Dimensions.

Testify!

the only willie bobo i have is the 'talkin' groove' comp. on verve and it is a staple at any party i throw. good shit for rolling around the city in too. i like it a lot.

Jesus is everyone too busy offering up contrarian opinions on shite '80s teen pop albums to even acknowledge Willie's existence? ;)(thanks TK)

I used to have a 7" of his cover of "It's not unusual" that I loved dearly until some fucknugget stole it from my box in Bagleys.

Ergo, classic.

"Shot Gun/Blind Man, Blind Man" is ace. On those sixties albums, Bobo's percussions were mixed too much on the background, sadly. (This of course applies to lots of other sixties/early seventies jazz records.)

Danish rap geniuses Malk de Koijn has a reoccurrong character named after him, which makes him classic: "Willie Bobo and his dog, Obo"!

total classic. i don't have the time now to go and check the names of the albums i have by him, but they're all fantastic, groovy and danceable. i second the recommendation of the verve comp, it's great from the first to the last song on it.

i really like the Gabor Szabo record he appears on, Spellbinder. I'm presuming he made similar appearances elsewhere to capitalize on that Latin percussion crossover appeal.
