Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

That this song has inspired such a hilarious reaction only makes it greater!

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

"If you strike me down, I shall become stronger than you can possibly imagine." - Poison's "Talk Dirty To Me"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan totally hates spring break

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan's spring break features gothy synth bands and Miami bass, not flaccid hair rock begging for attention.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

do you hate sunshine Dan?

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not the best song on the album, really. That's the title track.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

What was that VH1 interview where C.C. was talking about how "Talk Dirty To Me" is the ultimate garage-punk anthem?

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I learned this one on acoustic guitar to sing jewel-style and slowed down back when I thought that kind of thing was funny.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

C'mon, you can totally hear the ramones doing this song.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, but CC offered up the greatest Behind the Music moment ever, with his thick whiskey going, "It went from a haus of hoars to a haus of hoarras".

*must be witnessed, or imagined, to be truly appreciated*

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

What if there was a spring break for goths tradition? Would this have changed the events at Columbine?

j.lu (j.lu), Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Come on. "Talk Dirty To Me" is better than the whole New York Dolls catalog combined.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Thursday, 10 July 2003 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I like how people are trying to convince me of this song's worth by saying variations of "it's better than [insert song/band I also dislike]"!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 July 2003 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

wrt the spring break thing-- if teen goths got laid, would they still be teen goths?

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 10 July 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Phil, that's just not true.

P.S. when I was a teen goth I was gettin' crazy laid, so all the haytaz will kindly step off

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Thursday, 10 July 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

this thread is madness, MADNESS

but i've come to expect this from dan "bizarre every now and then killjoy" perry

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 10 July 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I KILL JOY!

(How can one love Miami bass and hate sunshine?)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 July 2003 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

its also stupid.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 10 July 2003 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, but CC offered up the greatest Behind the Music moment ever, with his thick whiskey going, "It went from a haus of hoars to a haus of hoarras".

YES. The pics they flashed of a ballooned-up CC also helped.

Also choice: when CC starts playing a completely different song than the rest of the band during one of the VMAs or somethin. And then a clearly ashamed Brett says, "It ain't pretty, but its rock n roll!" after everyone just stops playing out of embarassment!

I miss Behind the Music. I'm not sure what happened to VH1 but clearly it is both destructive and major. I mean, I saw a special all about the guy that makes Girls Gone Wild videos the other day!

original bgm, Thursday, 10 July 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

There is an entire set of luggage that goes with my Poison hate; the people who championed them the most when I was growing up were more often than not people I couldn't stand. Also, they tended to be the people who were not above throwing a gratuitous "nigger" around.

It is very difficult for me to seperate Poison (or, indeed, 95% of glam metal) from this mindset; I associate the entire genre with being trapped in a town full of loathsomeness with no chance of escape for at least six years.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 July 2003 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

This is the part Chuck Klosterman DIDN'T talk about.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 July 2003 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, Ratt goes on that list, too. As do Warrant, Nelson, Skid Row, Motley Crue, Cinderella, and Winger, but NOT Extreme or Europe.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 July 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I feel blessed not to know this song, or anything in the Poison oeuvre for that matter.

amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 10 July 2003 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I remember wandering around in a JCPennys with my mom & brother, sometime in 1998 or so. She refused to buy me a Poison or a Def Leppard t-shirt.

i think i should be thankful, now.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 10 July 2003 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no clue what the fuck Dan's problem is.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 10 July 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Alternately, grow up as one of seven black people in a rural town and get back to me, Anthony.

(thx Jess)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 July 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I missed that post. Sorry about that. I hated R&B back when I was a young REM fan getting clotheslined by Color Me Badd enthusiasts in elementary school.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 10 July 2003 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

that said, I think "All 4 Love" is BOSS now.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 10 July 2003 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Definitely a highlight of their glorious set this summer.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 10 July 2003 21:06 (twenty-two years ago)

"All 4 Love" or "Talk Dirty To Me"?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 10 July 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

The latter.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Thursday, 10 July 2003 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

"Scrubs" made good use of this song during the 1st season.

Charles McCain (Charles McCain), Thursday, 10 July 2003 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Def Leppard shirts in '98? Was this JC Penneys' or an odd-smelling "vintage" clothing warehouse?

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Thursday, 10 July 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe it was in europe

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 10 July 2003 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I bet "JC Penneys" has an umulaut over there

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Thursday, 10 July 2003 22:27 (twenty-two years ago)

the international telepaths covered this song last night, so i will not hear a word against it. fuck you all in the mouth, we RULED. as do p[oison

di smith (lucylurex), Friday, 11 July 2003 06:47 (twenty-two years ago)

]

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 11 July 2003 06:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not even the worst song on the album, but it's still better than "Stranded in the Jungle"

dave q, Friday, 11 July 2003 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Chihuahua-yelping does not enhance a song if you are not Charo.
Hahahahahahahaha!

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I bet "JC Penneys" has an umulaut over there
Don't you mean JÇ Pëññëÿ's?

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

our version was better than the original cause it sounded more like the new york dolls

duane zarakov on behalf of int'l t'paths, Friday, 11 July 2003 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, I love this song. When he exhorts CC to "pick up that guitar and...talk to me!" and then the crappiest guitar solo EVER follows -- absolutely shameless, and classic.

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

no, i just lived in Flint, MI. Ever been there? Ever see "Roger & Me"? Then you'd understand.

shit. they need a way to edit these fuckin' posts.

Ah, 'twas 1988, you see, and "Hysteria" was still storming up the charts...

Kingfish (Kingfish), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:48 (twenty-two years ago)

great country song. not the best example, but it reveals their secret minimalism despite all of the guitar sustain. Guitar solo is like Eddie Van Halen meets John Philip Sousa. Bret Michaels is a Master of Ceremonies. CC belongs in the Catskills. also, sort of cute, maybe even intimate, as far as uber-pop/disposability/rawk/male-identification goes - note the whisper on the last line.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 11 July 2003 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

hurlothrumbo, you are certifiably INSANE. also, jel to thread!

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 12 July 2003 01:02 (twenty-two years ago)

four months pass...
"I associate the entire genre with being trapped in a town full of loathsomeness with no chance of escape for at least six years."

Did you ever see Gummo?

billstevejim, Thursday, 11 December 2003 01:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess the one good thing about all the hateful Puddle Of Mudd type shit on the radio now is that future Dan Perry's will be able to associate small town fuckheads with songs that aren't actually really happy goofball-pop classix. A real time reaction to a Korn single would have been much less conflicting for us pop trash maniacs.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 11 December 2003 01:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I never liked the band, but back in that time in Indiana there was alot of hot bubble headed girls that loved them and some liked to wear skimpy torn up clothing, which definitely counted for something when I was 17.

As a song, it is way better than anything Bon Jovi ever did.

earlnash, Thursday, 11 December 2003 01:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I hated Poison because they weren't "legit."

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 11 December 2003 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, I STILL can't play the solo right after 8 yrs of trying! For that, classic.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Thursday, 11 December 2003 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I am the only one who thinks that the guitars in "Talk Dirty to Me" sound a little Sex Pistols-ish? I suppose it's probably because both bands borrow from the early 70's glam-rock tradition, but of course I'm not defending Poison or that song.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 11 December 2003 06:16 (twenty-one years ago)

heaven forfend.

fiddo centington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 11 December 2003 06:17 (twenty-one years ago)

phil freeman so otm, really.

I should do threads like this more often (both negative and positive).

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 30 April 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Ugh. I really wish I could erase the part where I reveal how badly I'd skimmed through this before posting.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 30 April 2004 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

And the idea of more threads where a random song is trashed (or praised) because of traumatic (or enjoyable) experiences that have little or nothing to do with the band or the song itself doesn't thrill me, personally.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 30 April 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

You're silly.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 30 April 2004 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

So, I guess that means no thread ever thrills you.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Although I disagree, with the first post, of this thread, I find the capitalized content therein, quite amusing.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I left out, a comma

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

or, to be brief, nicole otm

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 1 May 2004 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

ok I'll admit the line "kazoo filter" thrills me.

I like this song! I just heard it in a bar! Of cuorse I'm drubnk!

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Saturday, 12 March 2005 11:22 (twenty years ago)

Catchy song. Shitty drumming.

Tantrum (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 12 March 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

Poison always sucked. Everything they EVER did was crap.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 12 March 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

Seriously, Poison make Motley Crue look like Philip Glass.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 12 March 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

I always thought of 'em as Motley Crue Lite.

Tantrum (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 12 March 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

Philip on the glass

miccio (miccio), Saturday, 12 March 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

"Poison make Motley Crue look like Philip Glass"

This makes me want to listen to Poison all the more.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Saturday, 12 March 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

me too!

j blount (papa la bas), Saturday, 12 March 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

"Talk Dirty To Me" is possibly the only Poison song I really dig. It's got a nice momentum that most of their tunes lack.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Saturday, 12 March 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

I find this song enthralling.

Aaron A., Saturday, 12 March 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

Easily my favorite Poison song.

John Fredland (jfredland), Sunday, 13 March 2005 01:48 (twenty years ago)
