Which good tomes on music, by ILMers and non-ILMers, should one start saving up for, pronto?

Big up thyselves and your fellow writers.

(There're scattered hints on different threads, p'haps it'd be better to gather such info in one place.)

(Regarding "the year 2525" - use other jokes please.)

you know I swear by Chuck E's two books. "Stairway To Hell" and "The Accidental Evolution Of Rock'N'Roll." The former is responsible for me being on ILM in a really-stretching-it kinda way.

Seconding that, and Simon Reynolds' Blissed Out -- while very much covering a time, place and state of mind -- is the first book of criticism I read that I really loved. Personally right now I'm waiting on Matos's book about Sign o' the Times, Marcello's book version of The Church of Me and the inevitable collection of ILX criticism as a whole. ;-)

I should have stated more clearly my question, obviously.
Smth like...

"Gimme hints 'bout the good books on music that'll be published in the not-too-distant future. - Either the book(s) you're writing yourselves or the books you know of being written, by other good authors."

(X-post) (Thanx, Ned!)

Has anyone who has discovered and contributed regularly to ILM actually managed to get a book published (or finished!) since?

Jerry The Nipper says I should write a book about ABBA, by the way.

DO IT!

That is one of the most fabulous ideas I have heard in a long time.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 11 July 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i think this is a good idea also

(hint: do little to no research)

using the KLF as the semi-willing agents of Abba's critical rehabilitation.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 11 July 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom on Abba = rah! Just mention all of us prominently by name. Indeed, interview everyone and describe them as 'internationally known Abba fans.'

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 July 2003 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Tico Tico - have you heard Abba's "The Day Before you Came"? It is the best song ever.

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 12 July 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

But that's the only Abba song you like! How twisted is that?

Nicole (Nicole), Saturday, 12 July 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Abba suck. But that song...

Cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 12 July 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

It makes sense, actually. The classic one-shot.
