Yes it's me, and I know I said I'd not come back but I need a favour...

Yes, I've been away for months on end and, no, I've not missed ILM, but as you are - for better or worse - bastions of music I have a favour to ask (and I PROMISE no stupid threads and this is a truely infrequent post... I'm too busy with other stuff to be here much anyway)...

T in the Park is tommorow and a few mates and myself are geared up for a great weekend but, sadly, The White Stripes have pulled out after Jack injured himself in a car accident. Obviously not his fault, but as I was planning to see The Flaming Lips on the main stage (and now they've been shifted to below REM) I'm left with the prospect of:

REM
The Music
The Datsuns

OK, I'm not a fan of Stipey - he's a whining radio friendly baldy. I've only heard a couple of tracks from The Music though... folks, are they any good? Can you maybe tell me where I can download some of their stuff?

As for The Datsuns - heard a couple of tracks and not my thing!

Never thought I'd say this but PLEASE HELP ILM!

Anyone? I'm sure there must be about three people that I never annoyed during my time of posting rubbish on these forums?

Calz (Calz), Friday, 11 July 2003 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

what are you wearing?

Oh come on, I didn't need to ask your advice and I asked nicely.

Calz (Calz), Friday, 11 July 2003 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know much about The Music, to be honest; have you tried their website? http://www.themusic.uk.com/tm/index.cfm

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

The Music are mostly hated on this board - so i love them, naturally...

stevem (blueski), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Amateurist I really hope that's a picture of a over-sized mural on your apartment wall.

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm downloading some stuff now so thanks Dan. OK guys - The Music or REM at T in the Park?

Calz (Calz), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Imagine you wake up on a lifeboat with Billy Idol and Cher...

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd be interested in seeing what R.E.M. are like these days.

Sam J. (samjeff), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

(and I PROMISE no stupid threads and this is a truely infrequent post... I'm too busy with other stuff to be here much anyway)...
yeah...whatever you say 'Spoonered.'

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

REM. Apparently they have been playing old stuff. They even played Radio Free Europe in Poland the other night.

Rambo, Friday, 11 July 2003 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

They were surprisingly great at Glastonbury. Good mix of old favourites, old obscurities and new stuff.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm gonna have to admit to knowing none of their early stuff, but the thought of hearing "Everybody Hurts" one more time during my lifetime drives me to spasms of disgust. I reckon my mates are gonna stick with REM so if I opt for The Music I'll be watching them alone. Damn those stupid T in the Park morons for taking The Flaming Lips away from their headline slot opposite REM...

Thanks for the answers chaps.

Calz (Calz), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I was so drunk I even enjoyed Everybody Hurts.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Just sing it as "everybody squirts" and it becomes a surprisingly enjoyable 4 minutes.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:21 (twenty-one years ago)

"Peter Buck comes in squirts...oh gawd it hurts!"

(with apologies to Richard Hell)

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

He squirted me and it felt like a kiss.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:25 (twenty-one years ago)

eeeeeuuuuuuwwwww.
I feel so soiled I need to bathe in alcohol now.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:26 (twenty-one years ago)

just another friday night eh custos?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

no, usually it's hydrogen peroxide...but this thread is getting evil. (And yes, my comment about Peter Buck is probably the worst of the lot. I'll admit.)

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 11 July 2003 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Music by The Music, dl in this order:

The People
Take The Long Road and Walk It
The Truth is No Words

Then pretend it's all they've done and you're sorted.

big fun, Friday, 11 July 2003 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Right then - well I reckon I'd probably rather take The Music, but we'll see. I hate stadium rock for a start and the thought of hearing "Everybody Hurts" just makes me want to curl into a ball and weep. Plus it will be filled with accountants.

Anyhow, tommorow should be a pretty poor day with The White Stripes cancelling, though I'm looking forward to catching The Cardigans and The Flaming Lips. I think I'm gonna end up watching Idlewild as well. Sunday should be better with Sugababes, Inspiral Carpets, Supergrass and The Charlatans. And I may pop into Death in Vegas. Anything but Coldplay...

Calz (Calz), Friday, 11 July 2003 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

death in vegas are goddamn awful. I'd rather listen to coldplay, i know that's like saying you'd rather smell rotten eggs than shit, but there you are. I'd go and see rem, *if* they're mainly playing their old stuff.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 11 July 2003 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, but Appleton are playing you see so the rumour mill points to Liam making an appearance with Death in Vegas and "Scorpio Rising" was one of my singles of 2002. I might pop by and see Bez dance with The Rapture too. Coldplay... I'd only watch them if I was within good distance to hit Chris Martin in the face with a tuft of earth or something.

Calz (Calz), Friday, 11 July 2003 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

the music sound like a cross between "the second coming" and the red hot chilli peppers (as i said before on some other thread). if this sounds good, opt for them, but to me it's the ugliest music possible. i vote REM, but then, i've always liked them.

the white stripes have had to pull out of the witnness festival in ireland, which i'm going down to on sunday, as well. the flips have taken their slot on thje main stage, so i'm probably going to see tricky and the manics after them.
