Donna Summer's "Romeo" is as good as Basement Jaxx's, but Berlin's "Take my Breath Away" doesn't quite match up to Rex Smith's.

Was "Highway to the Danger Zone" written by somebody who spoke English as their first language?

being drowned in sick vs juggling scorpions with yr penis vs. listening to chris deburgh whilst overdosing on speed, hmmm it's a tuff one. basement jaxx are hogshit too.

Not possible to OD on speed, you just live forever!

SSSShhh, they'll all try it now!

That hairdo Teri Nunn sports in the clip for Take My Breath Away never ever caught on,did it?

footloose has my fave AM radio song: "lets hear it for the boy".

but i'm sorry, dirty dancing kicks ALL those soundtracks. it has "be my baby". it also has patrick swayze's "she's like the wind", the first song i learned to play on the piano.

lady die, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i know he's from washington, but kenny loggins has yet to convince me he isn't canadian. so i guess english wouldn't be his first language. if he was from quebec, that is. which he isn't.

as far as early/mid 80s soundtracks go, dirty dancing has them all beat. golden oldies like "be my baby" and "love is strange" commingling with modern classics like "hungry eyes" and patrick swayze's tour de force "she's like the wind." what more could one ask for?

fred solinger, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

she's like the wind through the trees - fucking poetry!

Geoff, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I will be haunted by the phrase "Patrick Swayze's tour de force" for the rest of my life. DAMN YOU FRED SOLINGER.

I have to cast a vote for "Top Gun" here. Not only does it have TWO songs from Kenny "The Soundtrack King" Loggins and "Take My Breath Away", but I always keep thinking that all of the good songs from the "Footloose" soundtrack are on it. (Shalamar! Ann Wilson/Mike Reno! Bonnie Tyler!)

Take My Breath Away is easily the best song ever written by someone who isn't Marky Mark, so obviously it's whichever one that's on (Top Gun?). Not as good as Dirty Dancing, everyone's right. Dirty Dancing has De Todo un Poco on it, and we used to carry on like morons to that, plus it has Jennifer Gray pre-nose job. The ending of She's Like The Wind, where the chick backup singer comes in - fucking classic. "She leads me thru moonlight, only to burn me with the sun" - you tell me who is a better lyricist than Patrick Swayze, unless Patrick Swayze didn't actually write She's Like The Wind.

She's Like The Wind is almost as good as Take My Breath Away. But Take My Breath Away is still way better.

Why is no one mentioning Who's That Girl for fuck's sake?

Ally, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Footloose wins on hits doesn't it? - had the Loggins Factor years b4 Top Gun, has "Let's Hear it For the Boy" "Holding Out for a Hero" ('he's gonna be strong / and he's gonna be fast / and he'll always be fresh for the fiiiight') and "Almost Paradise"

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 2 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

oh yeah, someone mentioned that dirty dancing has "hungry eyes" too. i love songs about lust. another reason why that soundtrack ruleses.

lady die, Friday, 3 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Footloose sucks. Yes, I'm trying to see how many times I can say (XYZ) sucks before I get my head snapped off.

Ally, Friday, 3 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes, "Footloose" has more hits. For some reason, though, I associate all of those songs with the "Top Gun" soundtrack, which means "TG" wins for me. (Also, "Footlose" has "Footlose". Instant loss there; I didn't even like that song when I was a young child who loved everything on the radio.)

Dan Perry, Friday, 3 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i love topgun.... I hear the songs and i get a nice natural high from the love of maverick and his plane. not to mention that short but meaningful love scene which makes me sing take my breath away....

;) raveon!

What a Feeling, He's a Dream, Manhunt, Seduce Me tonight, Romeo, Maniac...it's AWESOME

Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 3 May 2012 22:01 (thirteen years ago)

Footloose-- "Heaven Helps" or whatever is the greatest motivational 80s montage song.
