it was a dove that he bit in a meeting with record execs. he'd bitten the head off the bat onstage because it was par for the course at the time that kids would throw halloween toys onstage for him to pick up and mess about with and he assumed it was just a rubber one. to try and reconcile the rifts that it had caused with his record company sharon arranged a meeting for ozzy with the the execs and to give ozzy a more approachable, animal-loving image she bizarrely filled ozzy's coat pockets with doves that he would let loose at the meeting and it would all be very sweet and pretty and nice. unfortunately he was a drink'n'drug-addled, ant-snorting werewolf at the time and it didn't quite go to plan..
