Sweet writes the songs and sings them, but the real question is: "are you a huge Crosby, Stills & Nash fan?"

I happen to be, and find The Thorns terribly delightful.

This is Sweet's project? Man, that's depressing. I've always considered him a good
songwriter (though occasionally lazy in the lyrics department), and never would have
suspected him of foisting such derivative shit on the public. I've only heard one song,
though, the MTV one, so I won't pass complete judgement - but that song was
really awful. The first time I heard it I thought, "damn, this is this decade's America"
and that's not a good thing in my book.

I saw them on the roof of the Gibson Factory in Memphis on the 4th, and I have to say that live they were pretty good. The album a little too clean and lacks a lot of the feeling I was enjoying when I saw them. But yeah, if you're a huge Matthew Sweet fan check them out.

And yes, they have a CSN feel to them, but I wouldn't take that comparison too far.

I'm a huge sweet fan and I hate this. Bland. Search in the archives, I started a thread about it in february or something.

Thorns were a great harDCore band. This is not that.

It's really evident on the album which songs are Sweet's and which songs are the other guys. I don't mind the album much. It's a little too slick, too polished, and I abhor Shawn Mullins... his stuff is pretty noticeable. The CSN comparisons are pretty true, but their style isn't that far off from the Jayhawks, who they're touring with and cover on the album. It's not bad, really. There's a few very good songs on there.

My high school crush seduces my mother. Oh Matthew...he lost me after "Blue Sky on Mars". I brought "Girlfriend" to work this week and MAN, I still love that record.

girlfriend is a stone cold classic for sure! never fails to perk me up.

It's kind of an unholy combination. I haven't heard anything from Mullins other than that "Rockabye" song, but isn't that reason enough to hate him?
