Ask him if he wants to do some wicked techno. With me.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:10 (twenty-two years ago)

If that doesn't work, ask him if I can sample him.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:10 (twenty-two years ago)

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

where the fck is zemko?

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:12 (twenty-two years ago)

remind me who he is?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Jim, he';s the greatest electronic music artist of our times. His music is ealry electronic with dabblings in musique concrete. Nurse With Wound's Stephen Stapleton was influenced by him. His stuff is more moody and atmospheric than much of the stuff around, which can tend to be rather dry and academic. He's the soggy Sao and no mistake.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:15 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, maybe not the greatest, that's an exaggeration, but he's right up there with Pierre Henri.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Come on Gaz, give him my album!!

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

"...surely is a key figure of musique concrete. His work could easily have been the blueprint for some of today's mixmasters, while other factions of his work explore humorous examples of 'plunderphonics' many years before this kind of work with sounds has found its way into lots of today's popular music styles"

and autechre like him a bit too

and colin...what album!!!?

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Time is slipping away Gaz!!! Just ask if he's ok with sdampling and can I send him the results?

Also - ask him what his philosophy of music is in a few words, and post it up here.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:24 (twenty-two years ago)

What's he doing here anyway? Shouldn't he be in Melbourne where all the art and culture is?

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:25 (twenty-two years ago)

ah, he's disappeared into the studio. do i give up my weekly soccer game to hang around and stalk him?

he's playing old darlington school thursday.

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Stalk the mutha Gaz. Stalk stalk stalk.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

do that thing that Wire did with Stockhusen -- use stuff like f'in Nurse with Wound, autechre and "wicked techno" as background music while you're talking, and ask him what he thinks of it and if he has any ideas about what nurse with wound could be doing better or what he thinks they do well etc.. -- tell him that he's on Stapleton's so f'in important big list and see what he thinks of Stapleton's music

it'd be interesting to see what he thinks of techno, whether he thinks it's "wicked" etc..

george gosset (gegoss), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 01:20 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, and ask him what he thinks of music by Luc Ferrari, Stockhausen, Francois Bayle, Jean Michel Jarre,.. y'know, other "giants" of electronic music

george gosset (gegoss), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 01:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Ask him about the structure/arc of Rouge-Mort: Thanatos -- especially about that hooting sound between movements.

Phil (phil), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

George, that's a wicked idea. You wicked man.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 02:26 (twenty-two years ago)

You know, Stockhausen's great, but I reckon it's be better if he just repeated a bit and put a cool beat behind it.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, thanks. i didn't actually conduct it, someone else did, but rest assured your questions were used. his english is not so good. if it gets used i let you know.
i am the man from the discotech btw.

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 04:22 (twenty-two years ago)

You serious? I was pulling your leg. Oh dear. Never mind.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 04:25 (twenty-two years ago)

c'mon, i obviously didn't ask yours colin...
jim, he likes eggplant fine, has a good recipe apparently.

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 04:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Eggplant Parmejana?

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 04:36 (twenty-two years ago)

*slightly muffled boom boom*

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 04:40 (twenty-two years ago)

OH COME ON PEOPLE! Where's your sense of fun?

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 04:45 (twenty-two years ago)

"listen like children"

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 04:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I wld've like to hear what he made of this year's ATP fest in Camber, where he 'performed' at the mixing desk in the middle of the main hall. A dapper little man with a cardigan (see also: Luc Ferarri!) - he got a v. warm reception from a smallish circle of admirers + well-wishers, myself inc.

He made use of one esp. fantastic sound, a sort've elasticated roll, like a rubber coke bottle being tumbled downstairs, or a gigantic elastic band snapping
