Jewel 'Intuition'

i think this is great but i'm sure this is just because Jewel is RIDICULOUSLY hawt. everyone knows that of course, but since when does she make jaunty pop trax? i thought it was all just acoustic introspective stargaze shit...

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

never mind that the song is thoroughly mediocre.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

oh sure it is...and me starting a thread regardless as a pitiful excuse to just comment on how amazingly (albeit conventionally) attractive she is makes me worse than calum, no doubt

HOWEVER, the question remains - don't you think its a bit odd she seems to have taken this lighter almost latino style pop tone now (or has she done stuff just like this before), considering she's been going about ten years already?

(phew)

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Jewel's "New Look" C/D?

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I can only watch the video with the sound off. The way she pronounces "intuitSHAWWWWWN" makes me too angry.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

alex cereal makes you too angry

Josh (Josh), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

The song isn't too great, the video is nice though. But forget all that and get your hands on the amazing, gorgeous, cotton candy Markus Schultz remix of the track.

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

she could never make me angry (fawn, fawn)

as long as i never hear the Dawsony stuff

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

the other thread linked above features the predictable quote about how the video is a parody - yes, very clever luv. nobody remotely gives a toss that you're somehow different to the stuff you're pastiching when you're wearing fireman's clothes

and thanks for the remix tip Sieg - slsk is being shite again but i assume i can grab it off ye now

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Am I the only person who finds her unattractive? I dunno, maybe just as talent makes someone sexy, idiocy makes them less appealing. I haven't thought she's hot since that poetry book came out.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

she is a terrible dancer. in this video they have other people dance *around* her to disguise the fact that once she takes a step she looks completely out of place. her incompetence sort of points up the emptiness of her anti-manufactured-stars message.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Jewel also reminds me of Lauren from Neighbours (last seen in a Worthington bitter ad in the UK), and Sia (he says, in a 'Mindy has a motorcycle' style)

noooo, its intentional, really...stop harshing my Jewel buzz

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

DO NOT bring us into this por favor!

chuy_loco (chuy_loco), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry but it kinda reminded me of 'Smooth'...

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Intuition. It's catchy and I like tripping out on the context of her stylistic change - not so much chameleon shift as celluloid to tape dub - much like the video.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

yeh i like the Super-8 (or whatever it is they're using) bits

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i tink its a real estupido song. her voice is sounds likea dying gato and es lyrics are real estupido. the production is also very estupido.

chuy_loco (chuy_loco), Tuesday, 15 July 2003 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Jewel badly needed a new direction, and this was not it.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

W3rd. Chuy no está loco, man.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 02:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not attracted to the untalented, poorly expressive, or overly conventional in appearance. But I may be weird. She's utterly bland...

Haven't heard the song, because I live in a damn cave. Not interested in hearing it, either.

Blood and sparkles (bloodandsparkles), Thursday, 17 July 2003 11:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Thank you for your contribution.

amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 17 July 2003 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i think it's as good as any other big pop tune this year.(Translation: marry me you saucy temptress)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 17 July 2003 16:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i really think its the worst single of the year followed by Mya's "Woah" and Lisa Marie's song. its just a really aweful aweful song.

chaki (chaki), Thursday, 17 July 2003 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

the Mya one didnt seem that bad to me. Lisa Marie? well its country-pop innit

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 17 July 2003 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree with Anthony about Jewel's non-hotness, and I think the song is pants as well. Plus she loses points for having only the second-best pop song of the year called "Intuition"--Hall & Oates' song rules over this one like Vlad the Impaler over shivering villagerz.*

*Shivering Villagerz is now my new band name, by the way.

Neudonym, Thursday, 17 July 2003 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

The softshoe tap in the Mya video is one of the coolest things this year.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 17 July 2003 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

yah the video is cool and mya has a beautiful voice but the song is REALLY annoying.

chaki (chaki), Thursday, 17 July 2003 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

her tapping is like 'wo'

Neudonym, Thursday, 17 July 2003 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I think the Mya video makes for good watchin'. I can't comment on the song it accompanies, however.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 17 July 2003 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

That tap break is one of the greatest things committed to film this year.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 17 July 2003 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

is it live or cgi?

amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 17 July 2003 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

i like the jewel song ok but maybe just relative to the rest of her stuff, which i loathe.

initially i loved the mya song and nearly the whole album but it's starting to wear on me a month later. video is totally hot til she starts tapping and suddenly looks like usher. that's a different kind of hot i'm not willing to embrace at this point.

brian badword (badwords), Friday, 18 July 2003 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it was John Mayer, in some "celebrities hear this years singles" magazine article, who noted that if you were hungover, this would be be one of the worst songs to hear while kneeling over the toilet.

da croupier, Thursday, 10 January 2008 02:12 (seventeen years ago)

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

i really thing this song is so weird

Surmounter, Thursday, 10 January 2008 02:24 (seventeen years ago)

She sounds like she's trying to disguise herself as Shakira.
