Article Response: Beta Band

Good to see Fred back... but I still don't know what it sounds like. On the other hand I've had the album for two weeks, and that hasn't helped me figure out what it sounds like either. I fear that the album's nebulousness will keep it out of my mind and hence out of my cd player.

Hmmm, after a half-dozen times or so through it seemed pretty definite to me, Sterl.

What is everyone's opinion of the highly esteemed "3 EPs"? I bought it after hearing rave reviews, thought there were a few good tracks, a few meandering so-so tracks, and a few outright bad tracks. No great ones either. Basically I was underwhelmed, especially after hearing how great these guys were supposed to be. Am I missing something?

I have to agree with Sterling: despite having forcibly cleared time to do nothing but sit down and listen to this record, I still don't have a very good lock on how it sounds. Which isn't to say that its elements seem incomprehensible, or that it seems "strange" -- just that I don't seem to have penetrated it deeply enough to form any mental picture of what it is at all.

It's becoming something of a personal challenge for me, and I'm counting on one of my next few listenings featuring a point at which it all suddenly comes clear.
