Does anyone know any good music related charities?

I'm looking for some that are either national or based in the Southeast. All I can think of is VH-1's foundation. Hoping to find something a bit more grassroots.

If you're looking for someplace to give money to, I'd recommend the Horace Mann Foundation for Underpaid Music Writers. A tax receipt will be issued for all donations of over $10.

ooo, I'm SOO tempted to make a crack and list any number of bands that could be considered "charity cases".

instead, i'll let you know about the Kingfish Home for Wayward & Slutty Indie Rock Chicks. We're a small group, to be sure, but with each contribution, we're getting closer to our goal of sheltering and nurturing the many wayward twentysomething indie rock chicks who are out & alone in the world, as well as supplying our founder, Mr. Salmon, with a new indie rock chick each week.

Or, if you like, you can contribute to our sister organization, the Salmon Finishing School for Dirty Dronerock Girls. Its aims are similar.

I like No Mayo. It's a more grassroots, more helpful VH1 org, and I think they do some cool work .

On the other hand, the "Chris And Elyn's Tickets To Montreal" fund is open for business.

five years pass...

a friend is looking into donating to Save The Music -- i feel it's the most obvious but it seems like it does really good work

A friend of mine worked here, booking shows for the old guys, and chaperoning 'em to festivals. Boy, those guys can get in trouble quick.

Music Maker Foundation

The Foundation arranges healthcare and other basic needs for aging blues and country musicians, and helps record and expose their music.
