Zero 7 any day. Any day. And that's without including their Another Late Night compilation.

damian_nz (damian_nz), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 02:24 (twenty-two years ago)

oh i can't stand zero 7. air are much better. i stupidly put a zero 7 track on a CDR compilation and every time it comes on it's like "what on earth is this crap?"

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 02:53 (twenty-two years ago)

what's the difference? Zero7:Air::Coldplay:Travis.

Only I guess they're both better than those two last ones, but you know what I mean.

Dan I., Wednesday, 23 July 2003 03:01 (twenty-two years ago)

air is thankfully free of vile cod-"soulful" vocals

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 03:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Air! 'All I Need' alone justifies all the hype, and once you add in 'le Soleil Est Pres De Moi' and the middle section for 'Radian', they're gold.

yeah, the middle section of 'Radian' is brilliant.

derrick (derrick), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 05:02 (twenty-two years ago)

mmm isn't this a bit like saying rolling stones v aerosmith. zero 7 owe there very existence to moon safari.

even that aside air everytime. 10,000 hertz is a great record.

gallantseagull, Wednesday, 23 July 2003 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I like both, but Air more for being a bit more complex and twisted in their conceptual approach.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 05:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Coldplay are so much better than Travis.

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 06:07 (twenty-two years ago)

air, if only for the moon safari and premiers symptomes albums.

joan vich (joan vich), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 07:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Air are one of those bands that must have been designed specifically to make me hate them.

The Zero 7 album is not bad, once you get past that horrible first track with the cod-soul vocals esoj justifiably hates on.

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i think it's called "destiny"?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Moses or whatever his name is sings better on the title track and 'This World' i think. i really loved 'Simple Things' when it came out, and i stand by half the album as being really great (this world, polaris, distractions esp.) tho the rest is pretty bland - it all depends on how you feel about coffeetable jazz of course - stuff like 'In The Waiting Line' will only appeal to those who've really got a lot of time for stuff like Norah Jones. they're great arrangers tho and i'm still interested to hear what they do next, hopefully something a bit different - more along the lines of 'Lo' and their excellent remixes for Lambchop, Radiohead and Mos Def.

Air win this one tho - more versatile and risk-taking.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

'All I Need' and 'Destiny' are practically the same song REALLY - there's not that much difference.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

all of what stevem said stands true but to be fair zero7 have only released one album whilst air have been more prolific - the air track on super discount is just stunning and their OST's are most fun

james (james), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I love both.

The Zero 7 Another Late Night album is impossibly great, and, sick as I am of Simple Things, there's no getting away from the fact it's a great record, your 'bag' or not.

Air are fantastic. Virgin Suicides and Moon Safari are essential records. They just need to stop pretending they're ELO. Oh, and they need (desperately) a good graphic designer after the abortion that was the 10,000hertz sleeve.

russ t, Wednesday, 23 July 2003 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Air are at least slightly insane in a French way, and camp too.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Zero 7 are no longer the new Air, the new Air is Colder

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Air's a perfumed breeze / Zero 7 is pressure-cooker steam

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I love the Matos.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Zero 7 is boring shite, Air slightly less so. Air wins.

ham on rye (ham on rye), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I Air.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, Matos, they are not! The Man Who is listenable, but everything else travis&coldplay ever made should be DESTROYED.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

"In My Place" is glorious, which is more than you can say about Travis (or anything else Coldplay) has ever done.

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

The Man Who is listenable like a fucking air conditioner

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

'In My Place' - worst song of last year!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

yep, you're really convincing me here

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

we will never convince each other how great/awful it is so why bother? {/defeatist}

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

haha!

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Air's songs are generally more memorable but in an irritating way (like the Sexy Boy one). If you can listen past the singing, or to the instrumentals like Polaris, Zero 7 are musically better. In my opinion, of course.

damian_nz (damian_nz), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

The Man Who is listenable like a fucking air conditioner
-- M Matos

Matos, just don't you ever dare tell these words to Glenn Branca!
;-)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought Matos was making a snarky comment on the pointlessness of some comparisons -- and I still do!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 22:04 (twenty-two years ago)

nothing snarky about it, Ned--I really really like "In My Place"

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i just felt some vomit rise in my throat, recalling ''in my place'' and coldplay in general. they are possibly one of the worst bands who take themselves seriously.

reo fordecor, Thursday, 24 July 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos is right about Coldplay tho "Clocks" is better than "In My Place".

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 24 July 2003 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

'Spies', 'Politik' and 'God Put A Smile On Your Face' are the best Coldplay songs

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 24 July 2003 09:56 (twenty-two years ago)

(You know you're gettin' old when an Air vs Zero 7 thread transmutes into a(nother) Coldplay vs Travis tiff without you even noticing the change)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

its a harsh comparison - Air and Zero 7 are far more talented/creative.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)
