57 7th (calstars), Monday, 28 March 2005 02:35 (twenty years ago)

Apparently you haven't heard EPs 1-3. He really used to be quite good! Honest!

latebloomer: AKA Sir Teddy Ruxpin, Former Scientologist (latebloomer), Monday, 28 March 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

No Meters or JBs? WTF???

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 28 March 2005 03:48 (twenty years ago)

Mr Snrub, fine, but I don't think BDB could play keys, drums, AND sax in the same song, as Winter used to do live, much less while wearing platforms and wearing enough fringe to choke a horse.

57 7th (calstars), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:10 (twenty years ago)

I thought the point was to name songs that didn't come from genres commonly thought of as "instrumental"? 'Cause I'd sure name the Meters' "Dry Spell" or James Brown's "Lowdown Popcorn" (which was already named, I think). Or "Hip-Hug-Her." Or Willie Mitchell's "Teenie's Dream," which is probably my fave instrumental ever.

Beefheart's "Semi-Multicoloured Caucasian" is a fave. As is his "Suction Prints." "Hair Pie Bake 2."

Oh, and whats that great Thunderclap Newman instrumental on "Hollywod Dream"? Is it called "Hollywod Dream"? It's a favorite.

Marshall Crenshaw's "Theme from Flaregun," on "Miracle of Science," is really good.

edd s hurt (ddduncan), Monday, 28 March 2005 18:31 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

This'd be better phrased as "instrumental songs from not normally instrumental artists", surely?

Neither The national Anthem by Radiohead nor Theme From Shaft by Isaac Hayes are actually instrumentals.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Wednesday, 24 September 2008 09:17 (sixteen years ago)

"X accidentally invent Y" has become a bit of a critics' cliche. I need to stop using it myself.

LBC's Steve Allen good morning I'm afraid (Marcello Carlin), Wednesday, 24 September 2008 09:29 (sixteen years ago)
