Who will be the Led Zeppelin/Allman Brothers of Classic Rock radio 20 years from now?

Creed, 3 Doors Down, Coldplay. Others?

Sartre's No Exit seems a gentle bucolic heaven in comparison.

There won't be one.

I mean, was Led Zeppelin the Elvis of rock radio? Which '70s group was the Nirvana of their day? The Pearl Jam?

Creed will be the Grand Funk Railroad, 3 Doors Down the Three Dog Night, and Coldplay the Bread.

With any luck I'll be dead or deaf by then....

This does get me curious about how the '90s, esp. the alternative rock thing, will be transformed into nostalgia (like the "All '80s" stations do so for the '80s and Classic Rock stations for the '70s.) It has to happen, but...will people really tune into stuff like Filter's "Hey Man Nice Shot" or that Mad Season song in 5 or 6 years when they're reminiscing about the early '90s?

God I hope not.

I see the Smashing Pumpkins' hits from Siamese Dream being there. Porno For Pyros' "Pets." Definitely some Alice In Chains.

Also, the '70's didn't have a Nirvana. No one has ever gotten as big as Nirvana without being original AT ALL. But its still love.

Dr. Dre

I've got this dream to curate a series like "Nuggets", but called "Chunks" -- nothing but the classics of "YEEEAAAAAHHHH" grunge, delivered as mildly nostalgic entertainment. Witness...

Temple of the Dog: "Hunger Strike"; that Collective Soul song that goes "Yeah" in between guitar riffs; Seven Mary Three's "Cumbersome" -- these are all prime chunks.

Classic rock radio will always play nothing but 70s rock. This will not change. None of the music of today will be played on the radio at all in fifteen years, except on alternative-station flashback lunch shows. Maybe pop radio will play the occasional nostalgia song the same way they play "Groove is in the Heart" or "Wannabe" now. This is no reflection on the music of today. It's just how it'll be.

All the classic rock stations around where I live still play losts of seventies cock rock, but has begun phasing in the more famous grunge songs in there. Not adventurous enough for my taste. Mostly they stick to Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and the first three tracks off of "Nevermind"; they never play "Touch Me, I'm Sick" by Mudhoney or anything off of Smashing Pumpkins "Gish".
Even though "Gish"-era tracks would fit beeeyyuuoutafully between Pink Floyd and the Steve Miller Band.
Are ye listening, Mr DJ? Huh, Huhhh, HUUNNNHHH!?

Everytime I go to my hometown (Tulsa, Ok) I am amazed that the "modern rock" station still plays things like Candlebox and Alice in Chains and other things I can't remember. Maybe all these stations will change to primarily 90s programming. It seems that they are trying to keep the same demographic. It also interesting to hear later 60s and early 70s songs moving into oldies stations.
