Yes, it's time for yet another Human League Best Of....

....surely the League have had enough 'Best Of's' by now..... and, just in time for Crimbo, here's yet another one.

Who hasn't already got all these records? Who hasn't got a Human League Best Of that, by now, would want one?

Avoid.

Out of interest - which band has had the most 'Best Ofs'? Surely, just the one 'Greatest Hits' would suffice unless the band in question continued to develop and sell loads of records throughout a long career..... which the League, love 'em as I do, simply haven't done on both scores.

can anyone remember when these previous human league best ofs were released? re: year

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 24 July 2003 09:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Usually it's when a band's been fucked over by their old record company, In that regard someone like Nina Simone or the Kinks must have the record.

The Human League best of came out in 88 I think, though their have may been a couple of cut price comps since then which don't feature the big hits.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Thursday, 24 July 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

from AMG

1988 [white cover - this is the one i have], dec 1995 and july 1998 [same cover as 1995, slightly diff cover, title and tracklisting] and now 2003.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 24 July 2003 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

plus a cheapo comp on budget label also in 1998, with less obvious tracks.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 24 July 2003 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I have the dec 1995 one, the 88 one always seems to be £3.99 everywhere but I seem to remember that it doesn't have Don't You Want Me on it. Is that not a bit self-defeating?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 24 July 2003 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

It's all a bit sad and desperate, I think. I'd hoped the League were made of classier stuff.

russ t, Thursday, 24 July 2003 09:58 (twenty-two years ago)

russ t, 5 and half years since last one - not too bad, what about the youngsters into new synth pop/electroclash [Ladytron/ Adult/Felix Da Housecat/ Client etc] who are say around 16-18? this comp would be an ideal intro for them.

remember not everyone is over 30, [like some of us] - human league could appeal to a new generation

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 24 July 2003 10:06 (twenty-two years ago)

The youngsters into new synth pop are presumably not so dim that they won't see the old G Hits package for a fiver in every HMV sale though.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 24 July 2003 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

did the earlier ones have Being Boiled on them? That could go some way to explaining it - that tracks seems to have entered some sort of cannon over the last couple of years

Robin Goad (rgoad), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

yes they did have being boiled on. what's odd is
that it doesn't ramp up the number of tracks off
'dare' and the earlier stuff for that
'look how much we influenced electroclash' appeal.
2nd cd of remixes/rare stuff would at least
be more interesting.

piscesboy, Thursday, 24 July 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

good point, as BiB state: The tracklisting for disc 1 of the double CD package, has been announced - so the second disc - should have some remixes.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Thursday, 24 July 2003 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

remixes by whom, prey? or that's not known yet, is it?

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

this is surely just a rekkid company exploiting their back catalogue rights b/c of "electroclash" being allegedly "big".

hawkwind probabaly have many more "best of" releases than the human league.

Possibly this new release has been "remastered" IE shredded by L2 until a graph of the wave looks like someone drew a line with a big fat felt pen

remixes, if they are on this release, will surely suck ass horribly.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 24 July 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

amg lists fifty who comps, but only about twenty or so are "best of" variants.

dan (dan), Friday, 25 July 2003 00:24 (twenty-two years ago)

where the fuck is "Seconds"?
