All three of these bands are playing near me in the very near future. I sort of am leaning towards Broadcast, but there's always a chance they suck live. Anyone seen any of these?

Broadcast are good live but low key, so if that's all right with you...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 24 July 2003 23:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Broadcast are excellent live in the musicianship department (particularly awesome drummer), tho there's very little crowd interaction. great accompanying visuals tho, and Trish will be rockin' her 'Boy From Space' look so worth it for that alone.

where are they playin? i wanna be there :(

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 24 July 2003 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

This club called Cat's Cradle. It's near Chapel Hill in North Carolina and lots and lots of indie/alternative bands play there. It's about a three hour drive from where I am.

carl newman has a charming lisp, but definitely go see broadcast. they are playing denver in october, yay.

keith (keithmcl), Thursday, 24 July 2003 23:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I like some of the shows they get in there, but I prefer Skylight for sheer "I like going to this venue"-ability.

Xii (Xii), Thursday, 24 July 2003 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Andy K (Andy K), Thursday, 24 July 2003 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

man, I'd just rent a movie or get drunk with friends at some place without a cover.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 24 July 2003 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Andy, you're not clear. ;-)

My sister and I recently chatted and she's going to be visiting a good friend of hers up in Vancouver in a month's time who apparently is going out with a New Pornographer (I forget which one, so don't ask). I've heard through her that Ms. Case is apparently rather unusual in person.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 25 July 2003 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

as long as she aint goin out with an old pornographer its ahhhhright

stevem (blueski), Friday, 25 July 2003 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

But what if Hugh Hefner asked YOU out?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 25 July 2003 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd say 'look i'll wear the gear and sit on your lap but thats it okay?'

stevem (blueski), Friday, 25 July 2003 00:24 (twenty-two years ago)

'and keep those hands north of the equator you gibbering buffoon'

stevem (blueski), Friday, 25 July 2003 00:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, I wonder if your sister's friend is the same as my friend.

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 25 July 2003 00:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Hm, could be! Who's yer friend and/or which one is she seeing? I'll ask my sis next time I talk to her.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 25 July 2003 00:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I probably shouldn't say on the internet where detectives and stuff can find me.

s1utsky (slutsky), Friday, 25 July 2003 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Understood and all. Just e-mail.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 25 July 2003 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

New Pornographers, only because I've heard them. Bu Reverand Hoton Heat has a badass name.

David Allen, Friday, 25 July 2003 00:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Good Lord People!!! Let me be the first to tell you to go see the good Reverend! Get shitfaced drunk and be preached the word of Rock N Roll. I don't even know who the fuck the New Pornographers are but I got a feeling they ain't nowhere near as pornographic as the good Rev. Fuck that pansy-ass shit dude, you need beer, women, and good rockabilly to make the night worthwhile.

Mark M, Friday, 25 July 2003 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

What if you're a straight woman?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 25 July 2003 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think you can get much further apart on the rock band spectrum than the chasm between Broadcast and the Reverend Horton Heat.

earlnash, Friday, 25 July 2003 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Broadcast sound like great 60s pop.

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Friday, 25 July 2003 02:44 (twenty-two years ago)

They're like a PT Cruiser -- new but old.

Andy K (Andy K), Friday, 25 July 2003 02:47 (twenty-two years ago)

New Pornographers!

Ms. Case is apparently rather unusual in person.
She is a pacific northwest art student from Vancouver, how normal do you want? She was the drummer in Maow if the first bit wasn't enough.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 25 July 2003 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i vote for the rev... don't dismiss the rev!

astroblaster (astroblaster), Saturday, 26 July 2003 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Broadcast are excellent live in the musicianship department (particularly awesome drummer),

Broadcast's old drummer & keyboard player both left recently. So I was all the more surprised to see them play a really good gig a few weeks ago. There are some excellent songs amongst their new material.

Mooro (Mooro), Sunday, 27 July 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Carl from the New Pornographers is nice, but that's not enough for me to recommend their live act. Sounded just like the record to me, which I thought was boring, so go figure.

Broadcast, the one time I saw them, were an amazing, psychedelic experience. I'd rather go see them than most bands, much less the two they're up against in your dilemma.

hstencil, Monday, 28 July 2003 03:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Ms. Case is apparently rather unusual in person.

Who is this Neko Case and why is she so unuuuusual?

JMMMM, Monday, 28 July 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

If you want to play hipster bingo, go see Broadcast or New Pornographers. If you wanna ROCK, go see The Reverend.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 28 July 2003 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
Ned completely off the mark upthread with this:

Broadcast are good live but low key

their shows are totally intense!!! LOUD LOUD LOUD.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)
