Do You Tour Squarepusher

So I got my ticket for the Seattle show this Saturday.. and i'm praying I won't arrive to see a sign saying "Tonight's show is cancelled because SOMEONE went mentalist again".

Anyone else see him on the tour so far? Will it be a grand experience? Will I want to administer sweet little hugs to that merry lil' lad Jenkinson after the show?

i missed him last night, but i heard the show was solid ... for a SP show. he was in good spirits.

at the show last night here in SF, he played at a fab new dance club called the Mezzanine ... and I guess a lot of regulars went thinking they could dance to his set ...

I find that pretty hard to do. dance to SP that is.

given that dud "live" in tokyo (or wherever) cd that came w/ the last squarepusher disc (itself of dubious import in comparison to his back catalogue). i'd guess he would be playing tunes offa his laptop (exactly the same versions as on the records) w/ maybe some live jaco style bass noodling. i did see him live once where he actually jammed nonsense fusion to programmed beats w/ luke vibert on keyboards but i'm guessing that were a one off.

donut bitch, i saw him toronto. insanity. be prepared for a strobe-a-rama. he played bass for basically the entire show. luke vibert also played a great set. i could only describe it as music is a rotted one note style with a go plastic sound. its not just laptop rock. you probably wont be able to dance to it.

finally getting to be mean to squarepusher in print is one of the highlights of my life

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

what show preview? where?

astroblaster, Friday, 25 July 2003 15:57 (twenty-two years ago)

what SP should have done with his double disc idea is make one disc all danceable/groovy/step/jungle/ragga/drillNbass etc. for the parties and one disc with all the soundscape/head-trip stuff for the headphones. I always wrestle with his latest stuff cause they have 1 - 3 cuts that are the bump but the majority of it is the later ... there is a time and place for both, but i think they would fair better as seperate discs.

esp. considering the Alive in Japan disc sounds like shite.

tk, that ideas so crazy it just might work

So he's back to playing bass again, huh? When he played the Great American Music Hall in SF back in 2001(?), it was just laptop, FX, headbanging and vodka. Which was fine too (though essentially just Go Plastic put through lotsa filters).

i was at the show too. that was a lot of fun. plaid opened and were great, it was the first time i had seen both. SP was in rare form that night. lots of "fookin right!"s and "go crazy!"s and "fucking san francisco!!"s. headbanging and vodka.

Strongo, where be this show preview? Couldn't see it on the Sweekly site.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 25 July 2003 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i dont think it's on the website, but it should be in the paper this week. (actually i haven't seen it either, so it might not be in there at all.)

my complaints are not exactly new.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 25 July 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

saw him last week in new york. only complaint is the set was so short... and he didn't play the super-mental stuff --- the mood was kind of relaxed... i was hoping for madness... oh well.

same with vibert....wanted to see him spin some noise jungle, but he kept the bpm fairly steady.
