Someone I work with just said this. I have to ask just in case it's true. Anyone, anyone?

someone else tried to tell me he was Kevin Ayers son once!

Damon's parents are Keith and Hazel Albarn.

The actress who played Mrs McCluskey was called Gwyneth Powell.

So.... no.

I hated Grange Hill.

All the time I was at college, whenever I walked past the local primary school, all these little kids would rush to the fence and yell "Gripper! Gripper! Gripper!" st em because I apparently looked like the character in the programme!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 1 August 2003 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

also yr name is an anagram of "[gripper] stebson wart ore"!!

mark s (mark s), Friday, 1 August 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

It seems unlikely to me that anagrams of Mr. Osborne's name figured in those kids' thinking, Mark.

I tend to think it had more to do with my choice of haircut than anything else.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 1 August 2003 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, if they'd actually known my name, I think they'd have been more likely to have called out "Stewpot! Stewpot! Stewpot!"

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 1 August 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually I also experienced this problem when I was at Poly in Oxford (Wheatley) and I have subsequently wondered whether the little bastards shouting "Gripper!" at me might possibly have included the future members of Supergrass.

Which one is Stewart "Eddie Snide" Osborne and which one is Norman "Gripper" Stebson?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 1 August 2003 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually one of them's wearing a Killing Joke T-shirt, so that must be Alex In NYC

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 1 August 2003 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

gripper, eh? Better than being called Ro-land or Pogo.

Kim Tortoise, Friday, 1 August 2003 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Having a bunch of schoolkids yelling "Trisha Yates!" every time I ventured past their playground wouldn't have been a bundle of laughs either I don't think.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 1 August 2003 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Ro-land = totally cool (cf the "i was off me f***in' swede when we sang "just say no" for nancy reagan in the whitehouse" story from a while back!

He's got the Gallagher brothers' eyebrows and everything!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

he's funny i think a certain sunday tabloid said he was on a "mindbending cocktail of drugs" and that his life "spiralled out of control"...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

A mindbending cocktail of pies is far more likely I fear.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 1 August 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)
