the worst bastard pop songs EVER

while bastard pop has given us some G*R*A*T*E tracks, it's also given us some real duffers. this is the thread where we salute the most pointlessly rubbish mash-ups.

I'm offering up the one that mixes Get UR Freak On with Love Will Tear Us Apart as the WORST EVER bastard pop track. Two great songs ruined by being played over each other, that's what I say.

I did one of Horsepower Productions (breakbeat garage) and Anastacia that's really shit.

I cannot stand the 'Smells like teen booty' Nirvana/Destiny's Child mash-up. 'Smells like teen spirit' was tired and overplayed long, long before then, and the speeding-up process has left the DC girls sounding like chipmunks.

Honourary mentions to all of the ones where the two tracks have verses of differing lengths and the lazy fuck who put them together couldn't be arsed to cut a bit out and make them fit.

thank you DV. i was at some shitty rave-ish party once and the DJ dropped that track, i swear, it made me queasy to the core and i almost vomitted. i had to leave the room. amusingly enough, the next room had a DJ spinning windowlicker, which i then proceeded to dance to, thus easing my stomach. who'da thunk it.

whats with all these new bootleg threads? i've done some pretty crappy ones myself - purely out of curiosity and experimentation, its a lot easier and less time-consuming than trying to figure out MIDI sequencing after all

This sort of predates the whole bootleg thing, but does anyone remember when Wyclef got Kenny Rogers to sing "The Gambler" over the beat to "Simon Says" on his second album? Holy crap that was awful.

Jeff Mills' 'The Bells' with 'Jingle Bells' from A Very Reggae Christmas. How they could've ruined my favourite childhood record by mixing it with that tosh is beyond me.

Vitamin C-'Last Nite'. A smug, annoying and plain worthless excecution of a lame-ass joke to begin with. The Strokes song is hardly one of my favourites but the whole exercise even managed to reflect its crap aura on 'Heart of Glass' in the process.

And to make things stupider, I bought it.

That thing with The Streets and Belle & Sebastian.

"Jeff Mills' 'The Bells' with 'Jingle Bells' from A Very Reggae Christmas."

"That thing with The Streets and Belle & Sebastian. "

both of these sound fucking deadly

i think i mentioned it on another thread, but i was at a rave a while ago and the dj was mixing hard techno (badly, and he had shit tunes as well)
anyway,he played this one track,i think it was by umek, which he mixed with an acapella version of "cleaning out my closet"
the radio edit

the mind boggles

My friend Si used to spin 'Billie Jean' into the 'Like I Love You' instrumental. He thought it was clever and, most importantly for him, 'justified' (n. p. i.) his playing the Timberlake song and JT's MJ-steals. It was a dud of an idea-way too smug to be fun and the enjoyability factor of both tracks got screwed. Now he does a better one with 'Thriller' and an otherwise average Only Child track and tries to convince me Oakenfold's 'Rock Your Body' remix is good (it sounds like really bad 5ive, you loser!).

I also have a mash-up of Mary J Blige's 'Family Affair' with the Beatles' 'Come Together' that I ain't too sure of. They just don't fit each other like the producer hoped, though it has it's good points.

Something about MJ's 'Bad' with DJ Zinc's '187 Trek' didn't quite sit right with me either.

you are a FULE! Smells Like Booty is the BEST EVER mash-up.

does anyone else think they should do a boot of the Beyonce Knowles song with Unfinished Symphony?

DV (dirtyvicar), Saturday, 2 August 2003 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

They are playing this shit on Q TV on cable all week, I have lost count of the number of times I have turned over my TV and been subjected to that Destiny's Child / Nirvana thing. I haven't heard a decent one yet.

Actually there was one vaguely amusing thing which was some guy going "Yeah, whatever" over Jenny from the Block. But not that amusing.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 3 August 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I nominate the fairly self-explanatory but lazily put together and basically just crappy "Only Stan Can Break Your Heart" - a fairly promising idea with a good title ruined by a total lack of actual effort in the execution.

umek was begging for 'without me'!
