Web-Based MP3 Downloads

I need some new music to listen to.

But I can't access any P2P software or FTPs from work.

Does anyone know any good web-based download sites? I've looted what I'm interested in from Epitonic and Insound - where to now?

(If you now of any good sites but would like the information kept private, I've put another e-mail address on this post. My listening greed outweighs my public-spiritedness)

Thanks in advance!

You are aware that Netscape can do ftp, right? Like if there were a server ftp.foo.com and there were a username "username" then you could do ftp://username@ftp.foo.com/ and it would get you there. Unless of course this is a firewall thing, in which case, no such luck.

It's a firewall thing - I can download files from the web, can't FTP.

While the Techno-Aristocracts of the 21st century chatter pallidly themselves, the REVOLT of the Org-Slaves grows apace!! Soon ALL MUSIC WILL LIVE AND REAL AND UNCHAINED ONCE AGAIN!!!

Plus we get to have sex with robots hurrah!

MP3.com does have a ton of music, but I'd say 97% is crap. Just download a bunch of songs and give each of them, oh, ten seconds or so to impress you. I have found a couple neat bands on MP3.com, so it might be worth the time.

Tom, check one of the following:

stereo, a Dutch (writing) weblogger who posts about one mp3 link per day. Amazon music downloads (most of them are liquid streams nowadays). Usounds with some good links (not updated any more?). Slatch's mp3 live download page. There is more at the Slatch page itself.

alex: thanks for the plug of my site (stereo)...

tom: if you're after something a bit more unusual why not try some Kaito, this mix of hiphop, dancehall-reggae and traditional african sounds is apparently *the* sound of young south-africa at the moment. http://listen.to/kwaito

I ended up at Rosy's Stop Down Under Tape-page via some link at Disko B-records, so it's certified cool and hip and all. I have no idea what it is though and don't know any of the artists but it's all great avant-garde electronics and the odd catchy electrotune. http://www.viralcee.com/rosys/menu.html

i started using "emp3finder.com" this week and it's great. there's no annoying-as-hell pop up windows, there's no registration needed, and it's so much more straightforward downloading stuff than other sites i've tried. and there's a huge choice of mp3s. i don't know why i've never heard it mentioned. maybe it's brand new or something.

scott, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

then again it can't be brand new if it has a huge choice of mp3s can it. mmm.

scott, Thursday, 23 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

one year passes...
anybody found anymore of these?

www.electromancer.com for unsigned electronic artists. Black Door is a particularly quirky outfit, worth checking out.

On a slightly non-related tip, you could listen to my crap music/bootleg efforts (especially Groovejet/Kiss). Spread the word & make me rich/famous/etc.
