Found this 2nd hand a couple of weeks back and got round to playing it today. I think hstencil and bob snoom have told me good things abt it so i got it.

Wonderful psych cover art.

The music can range from collage to songs with 'odd' arrangements (the last track was hair metal riffage with choirboy type singing of words). this alb is on ESP, which is usually known for putting some of albert ayler's classic recs.

From one listen so far: I liked the collages but it was playing the 'weirdo' card a bit too much with the songs. Am not surprised I found this 2nd hand (though yes you can find practically anything 2nd hand: the fules!).

I think it's so all-over-the-place that it's difficult for some people to get into it. Personally, I like the crazy range of styles. It's a stone-cold classic, in my book.

can anyone add to the story: in the liner its just saying that elliot and grasmere (the name of the two fellas responsible) just met bernard stollman (ESP boss) and just said they wanna do a rec with 'their connecticut tribe' (just their friends) and er, that's it.

what happened to them?

yeah, there is allegedly some residents connection (which would explain the absence of the original photographs on the reissues). a pretty good album overall, though gratuitous at times - "caledonia" is just amazing. christine 23 onna (masonna & fusao from angel'in heavy syrup) cover it on their first album.

had no idea about the residents connection, but i got into the album through those crackly ZYX reissues with awful cover repros and overlaid title texts, and to finally see the full color sleeve and hear the 'correct'(?) speed of the second side on the vinyl reissue a few years back made it even more wonderfully fucked. guess i couldn't recommend it to anyone, but it's brilliant.

The original Residents were from Shreveport (I'm told). Six pages of ESP-DISK in the Amazon download store. I've got lots of the jazz and other rock-folk etc, so maybe these guys next.
