so, does anyone know anything about this? looks to be mostly stuff that's already released. cheap cash-in, the second grime comp, or both?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

it looks cheesy as fuck (this is a good thing)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

looks great, buy me a copy too. looks like it's an east london thing which means it either must be brilliant or a total scam.

the picture of wiley and dizzee underneath it is a flyer for wiley's eskimo dance rave, you'd do well to pick up the eskimo dance (i&II) tape pack. they're pretty excellent and well easy to get hold of. not that i have them, but my mate does.

luka vandross, Tuesday, 5 August 2003 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

(the above covah looks like a tupac cover)

who/what is N.A.S.T.Y.?

nathalie (nathalie), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

natural artistic sounds taking you

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

what was the first grime comp - "garage rap" or "crews control"?

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

this looks like the best thing ever! thanks for posting info, jess - already emailing cage records for info.

etc, Wednesday, 6 August 2003 03:23 (twenty-two years ago)

i've got it, haven't heard it all the way through though. what i did hear was nothing new...

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 06:05 (twenty-two years ago)

who needs new with a cover like that? what we need to know is, is it any good?

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 08:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait are they just tape packs of live events? If so they're nothing new. Not to sound snarky or nuffink. Stelfox you've got industry links. What is this Ministry Of Sound comp ft. Slimzee/God's Gift and Femme Fatale i keep reading about that noone seems to know anything about?

sean g, Wednesday, 6 August 2003 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

know nothing abt that, the only "industry links" i have are worth next to nothing - minsitry wldn't touch the likes of me w/ a 10ft pole... i'd heard abt it and can prob find out tho'...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 11:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't think the lord of the decks is a tape of a live event, no. i'll listen to it next week when i'm back home and let you all know...

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i haven't heard the slimzee/double g thing but, just a word of warning, slimzee's sets have been WELL shit recently. everyone says he's a better dj and karnage and bionix but not for me... he's made friends with plasticman and gone all serious, i mean, if you like that fair enough, but i get the impression thats not what people are looking for.

luka vandross, Wednesday, 6 August 2003 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i heard him at forward last month and he was a bit knickers... very very good at mixing but i'd rather have heard more of plasticman or youngsta

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

But technically he is a better dj than most east roaders. I think his sets have always been leaning towards the dub step/tech side, maybe since PAYG are reforming this will change?

sean g, Wednesday, 6 August 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, thats what i meant, he is a much better dj than almost any of the east lot as far as technique goes (mac10 can mix though, and dj petchie, who's just local but is very good)but i can't get into what he's playing these days. do any of you lot ever go to anything local?
the crowd is VERY young but always up for it. i feel a bit out of place even though i go with people who fit in.
i was wondering what'll happen with the new PAUG too. it'll be interesting, can't imagine wiley going in a dubstep direction myself.

lv, Wednesday, 6 August 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i go to local stuff from time to time, always have... not as much as i used to tho'

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

'im well on my way to a million
stelfox is still on his way to the palace pavillion!'
dizzee ras...

lv, Wednesday, 6 August 2003 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

im on my way home to collapse withe the fan on full tilt and a big g&t in my hand, truth be told...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

it's not a tape of a live event; it's a mix of all the current "hits" and some freestyles. the track list:

1. intro
2. crazy titch - destruction
3. wiley - ice rink
4. escobar - ice rink 2
5. dizzee - freestyle
6. stormin - not shit
7. kano - boys luv girls
8. wiley - just don't get it
9. diamond click - diamond
10. dizee & wiley - 2 for
11. d double e - birds in the sky
12. sharkie - ain't a game
13. dizzee - brand new day
14. nasty - take dem out
15. capo, d double, sharkie - freestyle
16. ruff squad - tings in boots
17. kano - freestyle
18. hyper - battlefield
19, dm - battlefield
20. trigg & myth - freestyle
21. outro

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, it is nothing new then, but it's a good selction still, i like all those tracks, i can't see virgin or anyone like that bringing out a compilation as AUTHENTIC AND STREET (ha! sorry couldn't resist)
as this. it's completely east biased everyone on there lives within about 3 miles of my house so it must be good.

anyone wants to send me a fiver through thomas cook i'll just do 'em a load of tapes though, i know i do it for free sometimes but i don't have any tdks left...

(this sounds like a blatant scam i know, but still, be brave!)

luka vandross, Wednesday, 6 August 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

within about 3 miles of my house so it must be good

and my house!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah that's a nice comp. They put the wrong Nasty Crew song on though. I assume it aint mixed cos it's all vocal tracks. These budget mixes are always the best cos it's not some record exec or A & R putting it together, it's always the ones with proper involvement in the music. And they're often very cheap.

If anyone wants any of these tunes hit me up on slsk. 'sean fuck' is the username, be quick tho cos i'll be wiping my hardrive soon and uploading a slew of new recs.

sean g, Wednesday, 6 August 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

anyone wants to send me a fiver through thomas cook i'll just do 'em a load of tapes though,

are you serious, luka?

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 7 August 2003 06:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i was when i wrote it but immediately after i wrote it it seemed like a right wanker thing to say, a fiver's quite a lot to ask for for stuff i taped off the radio, it's not like the sound qualitys good or anything.
i do have about 100 of the fuckers, all from 2002-2003, mostly nasty crew, east connection and roll deep and i do want to share them, it's just a question of how many people want them and what i have the time and money to do. i currently have far too much time and not nearly enough money.

luka vandross, Thursday, 7 August 2003 07:07 (twenty-two years ago)

(i've emailed you.)

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 7 August 2003 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

did anyone pick this up then? i couldn't find it anywhere in london, but my cousin daniel promised to burn me a copy from a friend. if someone tells me how to rip i'll happily share it with yous lot on slsk. i imagine most of you have got alot of the songs by now. i'd like to hear some more vocal versions of the battlefield riddim and not pay 8 pound for a poorly pressed dubzie! it is actually on slsk but the boy, 'paska' who's sharing it banned me.

sean g, Friday, 15 August 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, i had it queued from someone for about a week and then finally said fuck it.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 15 August 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i've got it on mp3... if london peeps want it then let me know.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 15 August 2003 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

rrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh the kano freestyle is over the 'what we do...' instrumental!!

sean g, Saturday, 16 August 2003 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

'my vocal chords could daze em quickly/cos i spray like fifty 50's/come get me/i kick like 50 jet li's'

sean g, Saturday, 16 August 2003 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

:-O

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 16 August 2003 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

you mean freeway "what we do" right??

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 16 August 2003 20:54 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah the "even though what we do is wrong-ong-ong-ong" one

sean g, Saturday, 16 August 2003 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

hearing k.a over a just blaze beat really enforce the jay z comparisons ive been making to myself; the hyper-enunciation, the hard last-syllable rhymes, the clever name drops, the friendly self-confidence, the kind of taunting soft/loud voice drops.. they both have this camp bragadoccio, like old 40's music hall comedians.

incidentally i read this the other day:
"it's coming. it might not be here today but there's gonna be a jay-z coming out of the uk. he'll probably rap with a sort of tone, you know, sorta like master p and the no limit camp came rappin southern. he's gonna have a twang, and he's gonna be very powerful. he'll probably come from brixton (haha yeah all black londoners live in brixton!) or somewhere and he's really gonna change the face of hip hop for the uk. it's just a matter of time..."
kevin lyles, president of def jam recordings

this was said in april 2001.

i guess the obvious future subject of this paragraph is dizzee rascal, but i cant help thinking that if american people want a british jay z then k fulfills this role more accurately. theyre both standard right now for sure but boy in the corner is just the start and if anyone makes a solo record first outta nasty its surely gonna be kano (i personally prefer d double but he's way too grimy too become a jay like star)

(this doesnt mean we can call it hip hop now btw)

sean g, Saturday, 16 August 2003 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

this is no.3 on my list of reasons-to-get-a-job.

ps : cage records is where I'm gonna import it from.

Yeah as I said on my blog Kano is *totally* the grime Jay-Z - that same formula of gentlemenliness with a hint of menace, mild-mannered braggadocio that's mild-mannered b/c you'd be a fool to get him angry. A certain - prissiness? - that never reveals itself openly but informs everything else. Which i guess makes "Boys Luv Girls" his "Can I Get A..." but actually it reminds me more of "Nigga What, Nigga Who".

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 17 August 2003 07:54 (twenty-two years ago)

escobar - ice rink 2

= unbelievably mental hyperintense re-edit!

wiley track 8 is rather good too, bollywood tabla swish

Chip Morningstar (bob), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i tried to get this from Cage.

"I got your order today but I am sorry to tell you that the company
distributing the CD has now taken it off sale."

is this true everywhere? i wanna go back to london, brighton sux, it's just got the wrong posture, y'know?

can anyone help?

nebbesh (nebbesh), Friday, 22 August 2003 08:11 (twenty-two years ago)

i bought lord of the decks from independance-records.com - it's both a complete sham: a promo-only CDR clipped track thing with a photocopied sleeve; and total genius: the diamond clique track is super awesome, as are the freestyles. all of it sounds incredible at 8am when walking to the tube station.

Chris Houghton (chrish), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

incidentally anyone who doesn't have it yet can get it off me on slsk, at least for the next couple of days 9-5 uk time (username tsg21, msg me to be added to my list).

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 28 August 2003 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)

the icebox (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i've been listening to this non-stop out the house. houghton ws otm; a bit nasty cs it's mostly tracks i already had but genius cs thr all amazing + nice to have them in one place; like to be able to do a zem yawn here bt living in glasgow i can't afford to :P

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

"Decks" doesn't rhyme with "ring". Although, I suppose since we're talking about 'rappers' such mistakes are not unexpected.

OMFG WAS THAT A RACIST COMMENT?!

lord of the decks vol 2 was enlightening, it showed alot to do with the scene (good & bad), this scene needs to fix up, there's to many untalented people coming through. on the other hand there is raw talent that will push through e.g. doogz, wiley & n.a.s.t.y. if u see lord of the decks, cop that. its a must have for anybody feeling our music & it will make you think abit deeper about where its going although i still dont know???
p.s. does anyone know if there was even a vol 1 & when is vol 3 out?

dj layzee, Saturday, 24 April 2004 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)
