I'm looking for somewhat minimalistic pop songs with a steady dancable drum beat.

Stuff like "Temptation" by New Order or "Disorder" by Joy Division where it sounds like they just threw it out in one take punk style, but it's got that steady dancable beat, even though it's not a dance song, per say. New Order are best at this, even on their most dance heavy albums they have a few songs that sound like straight ahead indie dance songs. The Strokes do it, except they aren't very good at it. Anyway, these are the type of songs that make me fantasize about being in a band, and I want some more stuff like it!

Radiohead, Packt Like Sardines in a Crusht Tin Box?

Too overproduced. I don't picture some guys in a garage just banging it out. Not that I'm talking about garage rock here, but there is a DYI element to the two songs I listed above.

How about some (wince) Krautrock?

Ok, listen to "Age Of Consent" by New Order and notice how it's such a simple song when you think about it, yet it's pop perfection. It doesn't rely on shiney production or virtuosic playing. It basically starts off with the simplest lead and just builds everything around it. Also, the simple and steady dance beat is just something that I love to death and the fact that New Order writes the best songs and also has that simple but effective rhythym is what makes them my favorite. I'm sure there are a shitload of indie pop bands like that who have inconsistent albums but awesome singles, and I'm looking for a brotha to help me out.

Faith era Cure has a bit of a cross-over w/ Joy Division sound stuff in my mind. Sure, it's slow - but the steady beats means that it can be mixed...

What about Bauhaus 'Bela Lugosi's Dead'?

What about 'Sign o' the Times'? What about 'Kiss'? What about 'Alphabet St.'? Prince is the answer! Minimalist pop songs with a steady dancable drum beat? Prince! Prince, dammit!!

"Do You Remember The First Time" tho, perhaps.

I strongly recommend you check out Mirah's "Recommendation" off her Advisory Committee album. 1 minute 40 some seconds of what sounds like her dicking around with a four track. So fun and very danceable.
