I would like Low to play at mine.

neil, Wednesday, 6 August 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

The Damned.

In fact, I may well refuse to get married unless they agree to play at the reception afterwards!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Low would be terrific.

Or Anal Cunt.

Or Boz Scaggs with Low.

gage o (gage o), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Dr John.

James Ball (James Ball), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been married for ten years, and it was a tiny civil thing, but I would have liked to have Borbetomagus play, if we'd had a big ceremony.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

My partner says she's prepared to settle for the Vibrators; by which of course she means this lot....

.... doesn't she?!?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I would have a set alternating between the Ronettes (complete with orchestra and a mad bloke with dark glasses in the corner drinking a G&T) and The Undertones doing their sappier stuff.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 14:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Stone Love. How freaking amazing would that be? I'd have to invite TONS of people just to make it worthwhile.

cybele (cybele), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Turbonegro.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought the Stranglers (with Hugh back in the band....all in tuxedos) would've been a great choice. Didn't work out that way, of course (we settled on a deejay).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i've heard that Yo La Tengo and Slim Cessna's Auto Club will both play weddings.

that'd be fun.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

despite the fact that half the guests would refer to them as "the band from that new VW commercial," the polyphonic spree.

Felcher (Felcher), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

The idea of getting married doesn't sound very attractive, but if I were to get married, the best would be to get coctail-piano curtesy of Cecil Taylor.

Øystein Holm-Olsen (Øystein H-O), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I was so, so jealous when I heard that Adam Yaunch got Rancid to play his wedding. So jealous.

Tom Breihan (Tom Breihan), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and the Leipzig Gewandhaus-Orchester

zebedee (zebedee), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

In a perfect world, Mark Sandman isn't dead, and Morphine is playing my wedding, and I'm marrying a woman named "Clare".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

New Model Army

Brandon Welch (Brandon Welch), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Firewater would be an amazing choice.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Calexico! That would get things grooving nicely.

ham on rye (ham on rye), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Rightious Brothers - You've Lost that Loving Feeling
and Queen's wedding march from Flash Gordon.

Hey, Lisa & I got Barbara Manning at ours...

Douglas (Douglas), Thursday, 7 August 2003 04:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm not so inclined, but if i were, i'd have to insist on getting arthur lee to play live.

"you two white people have a nice motherfuckin' life!"

i can only dream.

call mr. lee (call mr. lee), Thursday, 7 August 2003 04:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Ying Yang Twins

My soon to be father-in-law helped set up the wedding and he hired this husband-wife Irish music playing duo to play at the ceremony. At the time it sounded like a fine idea. They were excited and wrote a special song just for us as the intro for the ceremony. Anyways, as my wife and I waited to be wed they played the song and it was beautiful, but it went on and on and on!!! they went back to the chorus like five times!!! It was totally agonizing!! My soon to be wife and I were excanging sweaty glances even before i got the ring on her finger! Finally the song ended and there was just the hush of nature (the wedding was in a park) and it was warm and fuzzy and lovely. So if i had to recomend a band I would say be outside in the summer and have the breeze and the bees buzzing be the soundtrack...

kelly denison-cole (dustjacket), Thursday, 7 August 2003 05:04 (twenty-two years ago)

My Bloody Valentine. Then I'd have Nuclear Assault since they're back together. Maybe Jesus Lizard too. Good wedding atmosphere.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Friday, 8 August 2003 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Teddy Pendergrass.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 8 August 2003 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Luna played at mine, and were really nice. While I was checking on bands who play weddings, I was told that Yo La Tengo will, and that Sonic Youth won't under any circumstances. This was a couple years ago.

dlp9001, Sunday, 10 August 2003 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, strikes me that THE WEDDING PRESENT would be the ideal wedding band.
