"I'm not angry at Nate. If anything, I pity him. He's an excellent musician and he's so much better than the crap that he plays. If I was forced to play that fucking shit day in and day out, I would hang myself for sure."

That's Dan Hoerner, of Sunny Day Real Estate, speaking of Nate Mendel, who went on to play for the Foo Fighters. Dan, meanwhile, is now playing for (you'd better sit down) DASHBOARD FUCKING CONFESSIONAL. Is anyone here even going to try to defend or explain this to me??

LOL OMG THEY BOTH PLAY SHITTY MUSIC SO THEY R DUMB AND SHOUND'T BE SO!!!!!!!!!!

d k (d k), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

That's kinda like how everybody's bad-mouthing all the non-Eric Avery members of Janes Addiction for "selling out on their principles" or somesuch, while simultaneously Eric "only respectable one left of the bunch" joins up with Alanis mufucking Morrisette's band!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a Steve Albini level of hypocrisy.

ham on rye (ham on rye), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

and thus should be applauded.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 17:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Foo Fighters lack the pure emotion of SDRE and Dashboard Confessional. Also, they attract a slightly smaller number of underage girls than DC. Thus, they are worse.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

That's a Steve Albini level of hypocrisy.

This might require some further explanation. Are you referring to him producing shit like Bush and the Ghost?

King Kobra (King Kobra), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

enh, but the Foo Fighers make funnier videos.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe he was all like hahaha you fucker you joined a shitty band and get lots of money and chicks and HEY WAIT A MINUTE!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but if I had said the same thing, I would have to hold myself to those sentiments on principle, and fucking HANG MYSELF LIKE I SAID I WOULD. What the fuck, I mean, does Dan really think Dashboard Confessional is a better band?

King Kobra (King Kobra), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

"Funny" videos = hella lame.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

dahsboard confessional have a new album out too apparently. has anyone heard it, is it as shitass as i assume it is, or is it some sort of giant leap forward into not making me puke? sigh, emo, i was once 14 too. and havin experienced that phase, i can tell you THE reason emo is popular amongst boys - its because:
1) they fancy some lame bit of jailbait.
2) they are too scared to tell her
3) and they are afraid to masterbate at night in case she happens to find out about it, maybe she might be walking along the street and she'll hear noises or something if he accidentally left the window open, i dunno.
4) sexual tension builds up due to lack of wank action
5) it gets too much, brain builds up barrier of femininity to prevent sudden burstage.
6) the boy needs to listen to emo supply his brain with reinforcement for said barrier.

in other words if we didnt have emo, the streets be filled with the flow of hot white...well you get the picture.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

"everlong" is better than any sdre song (on the first LP and "thief steal me a peach" as that's all i've heard)

"everlong" is also the only foo fighters song i've heard, weirdness!

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd get all my friends around, y'know, set up a refreshments table, call a press conference, AND HANG MYSELF IN FRONT OF ALL THOSE PEOPLE as they stood around eating Funions and snapping photographs.

King Kobra (King Kobra), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i dont think 14 year old boys have any problem masturbating...

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

This is so brilliant everyone must read it again:

i wonder if i can get in touch with the guy...part of me wonders whether carraba is truely a genius who just thought up a great way to snare kids into blind worship and get on mtv unplugged and make lots of money. id quite like to sit down and discuss machiavelli with him

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 22:27 (twenty-two years ago)

and brian sewell would be there too, and maybe some of the late review gang, cept whats-her-face greer who can just chew my balls

dyson (dyson), Thursday, 7 August 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

he probably just does it for the 'tang.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Thursday, 7 August 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

so i am assuming dan hoerner said that in his suicide note?

mallory bourgeois (painter man), Thursday, 7 August 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

while simultaneously Eric "only respectable one left of the bunch" joins up with Alanis mufucking Morrisette's band!

Hey, as far as I'm concerned he could even be playing with Justin Timberlake and I'd still like him more than the rest.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 7 August 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I treasure this thread simply for the so so rare appearance of the phrase "I'm not angry at Nate". I also treasure it because it gives me future opportunity to sling h8X0r at a member of the one band that has caused more horrible emo demos to reach my ears than any other group ever. (Irony: I like "In Circles". Mildly.)
