If the Search function does not mislead me, we haven't done this before.

Can we assemble a "best of" Dre. productions on the equivalent of one or two CDs?

a dre best-of would fill more than two cds. this is going to take some time.
ps- you have broken our usual mind-meld, gygax. i think "no more lies" is rad.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

his verse on "nicety" is literally the worst example of his talent imaginable.

world class wreckin' crew - surgery

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

oh come on lauren, okay: dre, eazy and the arabian prince's production on "supersonic" makes up for michel'le.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Nasty, nicety, or whatever you wanna call it
Ask my opinion and I think that all it is
Is just an excuse to get in the boots
The dollar and cents, and remain innocent
Dré with the ruthless attack, check it
‘Cause all that you talkin’ about ain’t Jack
Step off of that, try a new approach
You get smoked because I ain’t no joke, yeah, yeah

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

okay, we're not talking about his lyrical prowess or painfully delivery, sorry. the production on that verse really stinks is that better?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

some people think dre's nice, some people think dre's nasty, but if you wanna know just ask me, and I'll play ya 'nicety'.

i don't know if anybody knows this but the DOC's "whirlwind pyramid" is a tribute to gatchaman.

You all forgot about Dre.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Is F*** Tha Police too obvious? It's a little theatre piece in three acts and really highlights Dre's penchant for hysterical drama wound up to feverish dark comedy.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 22:04 (twenty-two years ago)

S: blackstreet - no diggity

adam west (adamwest), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

And Blackstreet's 'No Diggety' shows off his other side - the ability to make a production ooze smoothness while still remaining unmistakably menacing and on-the-edge.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

dre didn't produce 'no diggity'

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

No diggity? Did he have a role in it at all?

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

well that's a disappointment. it sounds like something he'd do anyway.

adam west (adamwest), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

he rapped on it

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh.

Who actually did produce No Diggity?

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

teddy riley presumably

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 22:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Eminem - Guilty Conscience

Dre - Keep Their Heads Ringing'

Dre didn't produce "Gangsta Lovin'," thank god. Irv Gotti did. Dre did produce "Satisfaction," however, which is a pretty good song.

Tom Breihan (Tom Breihan), Thursday, 7 August 2003 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

The Grand Finale by DOC - also features Ice Cube's best verse ever
Phone Tap by the Firm
Appetite for Destruction by NWA
100 Miles and Runnin' by NWA
Next Episode off Chronic 2001 where he jacks that middle break by David Axelrod - brilliant

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 7 August 2003 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

iiiiii just wanna rock you (why 'thank god'?)

minna (minna), Thursday, 7 August 2003 14:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Does "Breathe" could as a Dre production? Did he actually produce it? I know he did "What's The Difference?" which is the backing track.

Nick H, Thursday, 7 August 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, "Let Me Ride"
"Natural Born Killaz"
"Keep Their Heads Ringin'"

Nick H, Thursday, 7 August 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Did Dre produce "All About U"?

sean g, Thursday, 7 August 2003 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I think "Deez Nuts" is also a great beat. And "If I Can't Do It".

sean g, Thursday, 7 August 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

s: Xzibit's "Multiply"

astroblaster (astroblaster), Thursday, 7 August 2003 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

s: obie trice ft. dr dre and eminem - body guard

adam west (adamwest), Thursday, 7 August 2003 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn...
ALL of "Chronic 2001" I am really only a fan of stuff Dre has done since '99. And really almost any track he's done since then - Eminem, Xzibit, Eve, Truth Hurts, etc - have been brilliant.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Friday, 8 August 2003 19:07 (twenty-two years ago)

more please! including recent favorites!!!!!

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Sunday, 29 May 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

If you're in Minneapolis, the Fifth Element sells a bootleg "Best of Dre" CD, I believe, that covers much of the above, but I'd rather buy the D.O.C. album again...

Pete Scholtes, Sunday, 29 May 2005 22:46 (twenty years ago)

The first track after the intro on Devin the Dude's Just Tryin To Live. I think its called "It's a Shame" but I'm just remembering the hook right now.

deej., Monday, 30 May 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

I've decided "Let Me Ride" is my favourite off The Chronic but on a mix CD it would need to be alongside "California Love" and "Who Am I (What's My Name)" as prime examples of him from that period.

Nick H (Nick H), Monday, 30 May 2005 16:44 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and as for C/D?, is anyone going to say dud?

Nick H (Nick H), Monday, 30 May 2005 16:44 (twenty years ago)

Personally, I quite like what he did from around 1992 until around 1995. While not much of a hip-hop-fan, I respect Dr. Dre a lot as a producer, and most of the hip-hop that I do actually like consists of Dre productions from the G-funk era.
