What music would be playing when you descend towards the fiery pits of hell?

No one ever talks about this one -- assuming most of us are going to hell, what's the soundtrack for the trip down?

Mark (MarkR), Thursday, 7 August 2003 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Why do I want to say Jerry Lee Lewis "Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On"?

Mark (MarkR), Thursday, 7 August 2003 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

'Disco Inferno', duh.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 7 August 2003 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Possibly this one Squirrel Nut Zippers song...I know their song "Hell" would be rather appropriate, but it's actually the instrumental at the end of the album Hot which I would prefer, as it has always sounded to me like a cartoon ride in a cartoon bucket going down a well at full-speed straight to Hell.

But actually, it'd probably have to be Mr. Bungle's "Merry Go Bye-Bye", which actually is about/written-as-if-it-were-the-soundtrack-to dying and going to Hell. It's got that sentimental looking-back-on-the-world-you're-leaving bit, the scraping writhing SOUNDS OF HELL bit, the destructo kill-kill death metal-y DAEMONS RIPPING APART YOUR FLESH stuff, it feels like being ripped from something beautiful and then being thrown into an eternity of pain and burning and OOOH NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

The elevator to Hell has music piped in from the local "soft rock" station. Bread, Seals & Crofts, and whatever the contemporary equivalents of bands like that are.

if slow - some klaus wunderlich, maybe some lounge/exotica les baxter perhaps

if it were more of a rapid acceleration, then
the guitar parts of can god fill teeth by lard might do.

Has anyone seen the video for the Michael Bolton song? I had the good fortune to download a vintage 3-hour reel of MTV from November 1983 this weekend and it was on there...wow, incredible. I have never seen a man emote so much or be in such pain over a relationship.

VegemiteGrrl (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 24 February 2005 02:50 (twenty years ago)

I instantly thought of that Slayer song - I think its Necrophiliac - with the "down to the fiery pits of HHEEELLLLLLLLLL" part. Thats so perfect. It would definitely have to be something from Hell Awaits. That album sounds like it was recorded in hell anyway so its only fitting.

I think that main riff from Monster Magnet "Nod Scene" with the "yeah" in the pauses would be a good one too.
