new single produced by eminem.....its like standard em plucky goth strings over this weird tiny clangy rhythm, really ive never heard a beat like it before and also every other line ends with a sample of another mc!!! reggie comes strong lyrically, he does a great warbly 'whos that man thatll scare the shit out of him!!!' part at the end of the chorus, the whole song is the rap equiv to a great big budget horror b movie like 13 ghosts or something, im so happy em is a producer now too, i read in some interview that he doesnt need dj head to program drums before but like even that cant explain the freaky drums on this track, its some shit taht would be too weird even for timb or whoever!! hes doing a song on the black album too i cant wait : )

for real i cant stress how much i love scratching in other mcs to finish a rhyme...it reminds me of those intros to dj rectangle tapes where he would take like one line from every west coast song ever and make one long coherent verse out of it!!!! i hope em will start the revival of this trend!!!

trife (simon_tr), Friday, 8 August 2003 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

does he do that throughout the entire song?

oops (Oops), Friday, 8 August 2003 08:38 (twenty-two years ago)

yes!!!!!!

trife (simon_tr), Friday, 8 August 2003 08:40 (twenty-two years ago)

niiice!!!

oops (Oops), Friday, 8 August 2003 08:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Trife is OTM about the beat, its got an off-kilter warmth to it which is really unexpected from Eminem. The whole ending each line thing goes right over my head as far as recognising tunes or even MCs goes but it keeps you on your toes sonically so as a gimmick, thumbs up.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 8 August 2003 12:59 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i didnt want to mention it explicitly when i first posted but the gimmick is that all the mc quotes are the 'dead people' of the title....biggie, pun, big l, etc

trife (simon_tr), Friday, 8 August 2003 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

songs that should have SPOILER WARNINGS c/d!!!

trife (simon_tr), Friday, 8 August 2003 13:04 (twenty-two years ago)

trife what are some other songs where somebody else's voice gets scratched in at the end, all i can think of for some reason is the manuva song with charlie tuna on it....!

Anything DJ Premier produced ever.

Ess, Friday, 8 August 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

yes

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 8 August 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Premo usually restricts that to the chorus though.

It'd be classic if he sampled people who only turn up dead AFTER the song is played on the air, "Ring"-style.

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 8 August 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

thank god it's b-horror. much better than sixth sense.

remember that video with e.sermon meth and red and stuff where they were each a horror character. sermon was leatherface and there was carrie and i think meth was a mummy? (or maybe this was 4, 3, 2, 1, i forget). i want a new gravediggaz.

alex in the bay area, Friday, 8 August 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, I was able to figure out that the MCs quoted were all dead based solely on the chorus.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 8 August 2003 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

dan what are you saying

trife (simon_tr), Saturday, 9 August 2003 01:41 (twenty-two years ago)

he's a gypsy with strange powers

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 9 August 2003 01:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Reminds me of some "The Score" era Fugees shit, for some reason. I dunno, anything by Redman gets an automatic 8 out of 10 from me, unless it's good Redman, then it gets a 10. I call this an 8. I call "I'll Bee Dat" a 9.

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Saturday, 9 August 2003 02:02 (twenty-two years ago)

helltime plz rate smash sumthin, oooh, funkorama, sooperman lover, and lets get dirty (gorillaz remix) also

trife (simon_tr), Saturday, 9 August 2003 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I gotta give 10's to each and every in the "Sooperman Lover" series, and also, 10's for the entire Redman Methodman Blackout album, because that shit was off the hook.

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Saturday, 9 August 2003 02:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll have to re-aquaint myself wth some other Redman stuff (so much new stuff around, been neglecting my 1997-8-9 potsmoke anthems, you know?)

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Saturday, 9 August 2003 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

blackout is the hottest!!!!! i like on that song with ll and ja rule when erick scratches in 'it aint even a QUESTION' right before ja's verse

trife (simon_tr), Saturday, 9 August 2003 02:38 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah you should check for the lets get dirty gorillaz mix its improbably great

trife (simon_tr), Saturday, 9 August 2003 02:41 (twenty-two years ago)

"Tear It Off" is clearly the awesomest track on "Blackout". It's a freewheeling tag team demonstration extrodinaire.

Nick H, Sunday, 10 August 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Someone in brighton stole my copy of blackout.

Fucking hippies.

Jacob (Jacob), Sunday, 10 August 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)
