"Do The Evolution", perhaps the greatest Pearl Jam song since 'Ten'?

I think.

it's good. i'm partial to the later stuff, though, i can only rarely really enjoy much of Ten.

Easily my favorite of theirs (which isn't really saying much, as they've never been a favorite of mine). I did quite like this track, though....probably `cos it's not their usual sorta stuff. I also quite liked "State of Love & Trust" on the Singles soundtrack. Beyond that, I can't sustain much interest in them.

"Wish List" is the only Pearl Jam song I like. What album was that on?

Yield. same as "Evolution".

"Do the Evolution" is the best song they've ever written or ever will write. Not to discount the remainder of their catalog, but I'm just saying...

I pretty much hate all Pearl Jam, but I love this song. And the video is pretty awesome too.

agreed on many points.
State of Love&Trust is a great song!! as is the evolution.
it's just a shame about the rest of em...

Distorted and cranky, no laptops, just BARK BARK SCREE GURGLE--"Do The Evolution" is a favorite song of mine--and though I've tried, I can't connect with any other of their songs.

Stephen Boyle (SBoyle), Monday, 11 August 2003 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

It's got probably the best music video ever.

I love when they get visceral like in "...Evolution"; almost as much as I love when they get all earthy and charged-up (such as "Who You Are" or "In My Tree"). I think they're a great band whose legacy is more tainted by their legacy than by any short-comings they may have as musicians/songwriters.

Is this a new song? No.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 11 August 2003 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh hell no, I think this song is older than my son!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 11 August 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I have food between my teeth older than this song.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 11 August 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

You have a son?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 11 August 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Sho' nuff! He's 4.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 11 August 2003 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

(fwiw he really likes their song "Who You Are" too; I think it's the drums.)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 11 August 2003 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

"I Got Shit" and "Hail, Hail" are the best pearl jam songs.

MerkinMuffley (MerkinMuffley), Monday, 11 August 2003 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah, "I Got Shit"'s very excellent in the hey-we-still-get-visceral-and-rock-the-fuck-out category no diggity!
