Lets talk about Ruff Squad

"We got tings in boots, Under the seat we got tings in boots"

I love how they seem to have mixed the sounds of the big three (Wiley, Jammer, Weed) and made this brilliant, chart worthy sound.

"Tings In Boots" is the mission statement that "Gud Ya Know" strived to be.

Is Strider a ruff ting or rolling deep????

Discuss.

yo sean, where did you hear this? (please don't say "the radio.") i can't find it anywhere.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 10 August 2003 02:47 (twenty-two years ago)

the radio

sean g, Sunday, 10 August 2003 02:48 (twenty-two years ago)

hahahahahha

sean g, Sunday, 10 August 2003 02:48 (twenty-two years ago)

no. if you're on slsk. 'sean fuck'. in my music folder. get "tings in boots". gorgeous.

sean g, Sunday, 10 August 2003 02:50 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks, i will.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 10 August 2003 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I love "R U Double F" but that's all I've heard.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 10 August 2003 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

heh jessiebelle; get "R U Double F" instead; that's what i meant to say about the mission statement. it's no regular. But right now it's the most beautifulest sound in the world. Check Tinchey's verse at the end.

sean g, Sunday, 10 August 2003 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

u might want to get "These Days" as well ahem

sean g, Sunday, 10 August 2003 03:23 (twenty-two years ago)

"then a boy comes with a black 9 mil/looking to take a boys free will"

sean g, Sunday, 10 August 2003 03:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i can imagine that being an ill lyric if it wasnt a british person saying it

trife (simon_tr), Sunday, 10 August 2003 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

was a little disappointed with the pied piper 12, still brill but much greater debt to wiley than 'tings in boots' had. i guess rapid's getting savvier at the controls but at least he hasnt lost that awesome cold balletic grit that i blathered on about somewhere else. 'tings in boots' is like the 03 cyclotron/agitated! produced by chrome! < /irrelevance for jess' benefit >

Chip Morningstar (bob), Sunday, 10 August 2003 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

not having slsk makes me glum

Chip Morningstar (bob), Sunday, 10 August 2003 06:58 (twenty-two years ago)

chip stop saying 'balletic' and get on msn!

minna (minna), Sunday, 10 August 2003 07:31 (twenty-two years ago)

rapid's great, you say balletic, i like glacial, but we both know what we mean, there's some grand frozen beauty to it that no one else has, like a big ol' gothic cathedreal carved from ice. still we might as well be honest and say the MCs er, have yet to reach their full potential i guess would be a diplomatic way of saying it...

are the MC versions of pied piper not being sold in the shops? i assumed they'd do it like icerink, it works better that way.

luke.., Sunday, 10 August 2003 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

'Everytin' Down' has great Jammer-style dramatic strings.

And I am I hearing things or do they spell it 'SQWAD' in 'R U Double F'?

Keith McD (Keith McD), Sunday, 10 August 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
everytin' down off gabba is indeed brill, ruff are def my 2nd faves of the year! shame gabba have to attach their usual hackneyed dross soundbite as per... "or as a ringtone of course!" ho ho, kindly do one mate

Chip Morningstar (bob), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

have you heard these days? it's wicked and sinister and freezing cold like the way your feet feel on a bus at 7 o'clock on a winter morning. and totally mc centric if you know what i mean, the lyrics are great as well none of this boring tortured shark major rubbish (not that i dont rate him or anything i just find his schtick a bit cringey after a while). i love the way their tunes are so budget and arrogant like a massive fuck u sign to the boo kroo jokers and their hilarious playstation production jibes.

sean g, Wednesday, 10 September 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
lets talk! (btw I've only heard a few tracks and the odd sesh until I got the mix yesterday)

'guns n roses' is out then (I guess I'll have to buy 'appetite for destruction' now) and there's a few promises on the sleeve: new album for the group ('birthmark') and tinchy solo LP among them.

I'm hardly an expert on MCing but as a group the continuous contrasting isn't too bad ( came across a smilar point made by hold tight/prima on this thread). This mixtape I guess we'll be the model for the album i.e. the group working on most (half?) the tracks with solo spots in between (?). we'll see

as for the tracks in the mix -- currently liking it lots:

when its on?
future
jennifer

hitting a wall on some of the freestyles being grouped together in the middle of it...but still listening to it.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 3 February 2005 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

'shake ur bum' heard this ages ago on logan sama's show and only the once: the horns aren't of the 'tribal' variety for a change.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 4 February 2005 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

haha 'kindly do one mate'!

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 4 February 2005 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
Gunz and Roses is nice. More strings and less synths than their usual shit, but ruff sqwad are massive. they just keep their heads low and produce amazing shit.

R.U Double F best tune ever.
If only they had the mc talent to go with their production. They should just become the Neptunes of the grime scene instead.

raaaaa, Friday, 18 February 2005 16:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm enjoying the MCing more than I used to actually. They've gotten better. Dirty Danger and Slicks can hold it down.

As for the Tinchy record - what is happeneing with that? There was a nice track with Wiley called "Revenge" knocking about - "first you done me a wrong/then I done you a wrong

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Friday, 18 February 2005 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I found an instrumental of "R U Double F" which is awesome, but still not a very high quality rip. Who will send me??? I will freestyle over it!!!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 18 February 2005 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I still say

D Double vocal, Rapid beat - it would be the best thing ever.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Friday, 18 February 2005 18:56 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
D Double and Rapid would be a godly combination.

Also I agree the mc talent is def improving for Ruff Sqwad.
I love the diss on neeko and frisco. "Frisco, please go, back to the disco"

That makes me chuckle.

raaaaaaaa, Saturday, 5 March 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)

where did sean 'pokeman' g go too?

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 5 March 2005 20:45 (twenty years ago)

He is around, lollygagging on the rap-concerned threads.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

ruff sqwad are still my favourite garage by miles. 'garage john carpenter' though not strictly true I'll recite til the days I die. their synths sound like laser guns, before goldeneye trivialised laser guns. julio, if you send me 'guns n roses vol. 1' I promise not to lose the cd in the princess louise.

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

shifty is my favourite mc in the world.

scg, Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:19 (twenty years ago)
