I'm new to it (I've heard "Acid Trax") and am looking for some download recommendations. So emphasis on the search, please.

Thanks...

i'm pretty much in the same situation as aaron. is the rephlex acid selection album a pretty good start?

astroblaster (astroblaster), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

absolutely mandatory:

Hardfloor - Acperience 1
Choice - Acid Eiffel
LFO - Tied Up (Acid Mix)
Humanoid - Stakker Humanoid

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

DJ Misjah & DJ Tim - Access (Original)
A*S*Y*S - Acid Save Your Soul
Josh Wink - Higher State Of Consciousness
Laurent X - Machines
Tyree - Acid Over

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

System 7 - Alphawave (Plastikman's Acid House remix)

Leee (Leee), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 20:12 (twenty-two years ago)

808 state - flow coma and narcossa
guy called gerald - voodoo ray
farley jackmaster funk - acid life
in a vision - virgo four
no way back - adonis
house nation - housemaster boyz
acid thunder - fast eddie
land of confusion - armando
i've lost control - sleezy d
where's your child? - dj bam bam

a good start would be the compilations "we call it acieeed!" on warner dance, "x-mix: jack the box" by hardfloor and "warp 10+1: influences" on warp. in fact, that's probably all the acid house you need for the rest of your life.

vahid (vahid), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Not entirely purist acid house, but Hallucinogen - LSD contains what is probably the most infectious 303 line evah.

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

there was a great great comp a while ago called flux trax - it has tons of brill things on there and most of th big canonical acid house tunes...
my faves are:
acid trax - phuture
washing machine - mister fingers
can u feel it - mister fingers
jm silk - music is the key

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

probably my fave two acid tracks are from quite a bit later tho'...

acid funk - hawke and god within
groove is going - lady b

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

e-e-e-essential:

dj pierre - dream girl
rhythim is rhythim - beyond the dance, nude photo, it is what it is
ron trent - altered states
orbital - chime
adamski - n-r-g

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

it is good to see acid house revivalism is underway on ILM.

Mike Taylor (mjt), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 00:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Not just on ILM. The new Luke Vibert album "Yoseph" (on Warp) is, quite frankly, acid as fuck. And not in a retro way; it sounds totally contemporary.

neil, Wednesday, 13 August 2003 09:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah Dave good call, Flux Trax is the shit, it also had stuff like My Definition Of House Music by Hell and of course the David Holmes remix of Smokebelch II by the Sabres of Paradise in all its 20 minute glory. Is that acid house? I guess so.

Would one call Derrick May stuff acid house? I'd have thought Beyond The Dance is a bit hard to classify, what a fucking record though.

Two great new acid tracks I've heard are Christopher Just's I Just Love Acid too, and DK7's The Difference, really old skool feel to both.

Kevin Saunderson-Velocity Funk is kind of acidy too don't you think? Another brilliant record.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmm, i have the double CD of 'Flux Trax' but no DJ Hell on there - a shame as i feckin love that track...maybe this is Flux Trax 2 you meant?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

David Holmes 'Smokebelch remix' is trance surely - arpeggios!

Acid Thunder - Fast Eddie
Circus Bells - Robert Armani (Hardfloor Remix)
Where's your child? - Bam Bam

there's no Flux Trax 2 I don't think. Best version's on In Order to Dance 4, it's the only decent thing on there.

nebbesh (nebbesh), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Perhaps, it's a vinyl copy which my friend has so you could be right. He may have got both in the same pack on record hence the confusion. Does yours have Smokebelch on it?

Trance perhaps nebbesh but what about all those ridiculous snares.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

there is too a flux trax 2

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah ronan, snares did use to be ridiculous back then. everyone wanted to be derrick may so they'd use those spitting snares and flex them right thru the track. does anyone use them so randomly anymore (shuffletech was so not what i was expecting it to be).

anyway this is techno talk, acid house was all burble and plod and always will be.

nebbesh (nebbesh), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

us acid house = less, uk = more

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

who did acid bitch?

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

flux trax 1 is v acid house but also has a few bits like the beautiful altered states by ron trent on it, too.

flux trax 2 is the one yr talking abt ronan - it's good and the smokebelch remix is the ONLY thing that vaguely redeems david holmes in my book.

My Definition Of House Music by Hell is fantastic, particularly the Resistance D mix on the original R&S 12" - i revived this only a few weeks ago for a dj set and it still works...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

another track that's not acid, but totally fab is R.E.S.P.E.C.T by mike ink - it's pretty old but, with the benefit of hindsight, you can see microhouse etc coming when you listen to this

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

who did acid bitch?

Accenter & Three O

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

hearing acid tracks back in 88 (i know i know, but it was on a 2lpset that i picked up) was definitely one of those moments.

even now, that 12 minutes still sends shivers up my spine.

came here to search and destroy acid house tracks, this was the most helpful comment so far.

Treeship, Sunday, 9 April 2017 14:09 (eight years ago)

It sounds like something when they go into an underground lab in CSI Las Vegas or a motel room where some nefarious behaviour was in play

I've never seen that show but it feels plausible

saer, Sunday, 9 April 2017 14:24 (eight years ago)

programme! not show!

World needs a Railway Raver reissue. Wonder why Rephlex hasn't?

andrew m., Thursday, 11 May 2017 20:06 (eight years ago)

Chris Moss Acid is fun. Quite prolific so you might have to listen through to find the greatest bits (customer experience will vary depending on taste, of course).

I've been listening to this box set Terry Farley present Acid Rain, which I could've sworn I found out about from ILX but perhaps not since I can't find it on any acid house threads:

https://www.discogs.com/Terry-Farley-Acid-Rain-Definitive-Original-Acid-And-Deep-House-1985-1991/release/4693509

This is fantastic. So much stuff I didn't know, but also has some old favourites, this is the mix of Dream Girl by Phuture Pfantasy Club that I used to have on a mixtape I made of house stuff when I was about 14, mostly cobbled together from Upfront compilations I bought or got from the library.

Colonel Poo, Friday, 2 June 2017 08:41 (eight years ago)

That is a fantastic comp!
