Anyone wanna buy a hit? Or at least learn the art of sufficient pop hook? Call us ... we'll make you famous.

I'll take Max, even though Child's got probably gets laid more and is Celia Cruz's nephew.

TS: "It's My Life" vs. "Livin' On a Prayer"

Anyway, Child wins for "I Was Made For Lovin' You" and "You Should be High Love".

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

"I Was Made for Lovin' You," please. Weak-ass cheese.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

O c'mon, Kiss does disco! What's wrong with that?

Chris O'Connor (Chris O'Connor), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I had high hopes and then I actually heard the thing!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 12 August 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the Paulina Rubio version.

Some of DC's solo stuff is good, or at least amusing. "Then The Truth Came Out" is classic and I can't believe nobody's used it in a sitcom yet.

I'd have said "Max Martin" right off, but come to think of it, at Pazz & Jop time I've tended to vote Desmond ("Livin' La Vida Loca" and Twisted Angel). I'll have to give this more thought.

See, Frank, you've caught onto the complexity of the exercise, because while Desmond may be a cheeseball, he's a genius cheeseball.

one year passes...
Watching "Remaking Vince Neil" right now, and Desmond Child COULD NOT POSSIBLY BE CREEPIER.

Not that much of a fan of Max Martin, but certainly choosing him ahead of Desmond Child anyway. Max Martin's songs sounded a bit alike, but other than that they were not the worst you could hear on the hitlists during the late 90s.

Perhaps another good TS would be Max Martin and Cheiron vs. Brian Higgins and Xenomania. I think I'd just about side with Higgins on this.

Nick H (Nick H), Saturday, 5 March 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

Alex - I've missed the "remaking," can you elaborate? Thanks!

P.S. The converse to this T/S would be Holly Knight vs. Linda Perry, right?

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Saturday, 5 March 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)

Max Martin, hands down. He co-wrote the only Celine Dion song that doesn't make me run screaming from the room.

Tantrum (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 5 March 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

Well, "Remaking" is -- I guess -- going to be a series wherein they find some washed-up has-been (like Vince), and basically spend loads of time and money attempting to revive their career via wardrobe change, musical make-over, fitness regimen and -- worryingly -- plastic surgery. I think the thing I found most reprehensible about the whole thing was that Vince Neil DOESN'T DESERVE a second chance. He's an irreponsible, idiotic jackass who is by all accounts and immature, disagreeable, spoilt alcoholic. But, whatever, in comes a gaggle of fawning sycophants to help get Vince back on his feet (including to Queer Eye knock-offs who say inane things like "that shirt is so way, way hott on you, Vince!"). Along the way, heinous cheese-whiz merchant Desmond Child is recruited. Now, his is a name that is tossed about the industry with great reverance (having worked with big names on big hits), BUT DEAR LORD, HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THIS MAN? He's like a cross between Gary Oldman in Bram Stroker's Dracula and Rip Taylor.

..and the song he give Vince to mangle is mawkish crap, of course.

punctuation and spelling went right out the window there, sorry.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 5 March 2005 21:14 (twenty years ago)

Tantrum, you're implying that the other two Celine Dion songs he co-wrote do make you run screaming from the room.
