It's a massive song, especially the chorus. Her delivery is getting more precisely liquid and bizarre by the year.

It was cool when tim used the rakim rap as a fragmented reference to lead into 'try again' but now that he's biting the rest of it as well, again, it's a little weird.

it's very weird when Rakim's standing right beside him

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

nice to see rakim getting paid, though not as nice as finally getting a new rakim album. you got video link?

jl (Jon L), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought the title of this thread contained the phrase "Missy Belliot & Sebastian."

Ian Johnson (elmo oxygen), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

isn't it "cop that shit?" without sebastian?

your null fame (yournullfame), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

ahem, the video

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

What's the big deal? It's not that exciting! Missy sounds cool and all that but there's nothing else too special about the whole thing. The main beat sounded like the same Under Construction stuff. And the CD's going to be called Under Construction 2! And the video sucked!

d k (d k), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

if you knew who any of the people in it were maybe you'd enjoy it more

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I know who they all are! They just stood around. Old rap people as props in back-in-the-day videos aren't anything special.

Why hasn't Missy ever let MC Lyte rap on one of her records? Timbaland has never given Rakim a nice beat so that he could have a hit song. Both of them are still active. They're not very interesting as props!

d k (d k), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

buy a clue dk

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe sell your malkmus flexi-disc for it

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

But. . . if they really liked them Timbaland have let them actually rap on the song? Wouldn't that have been a hundred times cooler? It's not like MC Lyte or Rakim are super busy or anything. And there wouldn't be any record company conflicts, either.

d k (d k), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

'...really liked them, wouldn't...'

d k (d k), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah it's just more tired retro posing barely disguising the fact that tim just ripped a middling neps beat off hard

Chip Morningstar (bob), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

hey look blount you even beat gabba.net to it this time! proud to be you

Chip Morningstar (bob), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

what did I beat them to?

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

special ed! not dead!
just a-loungin' on the set
with both arms intact

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 14 August 2003 00:18 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah it kind of sux

minna (minna), Thursday, 14 August 2003 00:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Magoo: no longer world's worst MC! Of course he only gets half a verse.

rgeary (rgeary), Thursday, 14 August 2003 03:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, nevermind. He gets a full verse. And he's still poor.

rgeary (rgeary), Thursday, 14 August 2003 04:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Its good to hear them all together again since Missy wasn't on the last Tim&Mag record. Catchy tune.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Thursday, 14 August 2003 09:44 (twenty-two years ago)

five months pass...
i think this is the laziest track ever, everyone is terrible on it 'cept Missy who's just meh, but using the Rakim line AGAIN? come on Mr Mo - Magoo should be flogged for rhyming 'super-duper star' with 'brand new car' as well - it's not 1984 anymore numbnuts

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 12 February 2004 17:29 (twenty-two years ago)

it's definitely lazy, because apparently Tim just lifted the drum pattern from the same sample disc as whoever did Britney's "I Got That Boom Boom".

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 12 February 2004 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I like it when Missy says "ya mutha" but that's about it. It has a better beat than "Pass That Dutch" but "Hurt Somethin" is better than both.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 13 February 2004 04:34 (twenty-two years ago)

much prefer the PTD beat myself but i'll take your word on 'hurt somethin' and go geddit
