Mixing styles into other styles.

We've probably done this, but fucked if I'm searching around for the thread just for your pleasure.

I started this because I just mixed "V-Proc" by Autechre into "Who says funk bands can't play rock?" by Funkadelic.

I am VERY proud of this.

So, I did it using Acid PRO, which I love using for this kind of thing because you can time stretch and alter pitches of tracks. Anyone else like doing this kind of eclectic mixing (a la Soulwax)? It's a lot of fun.

So anyway, this thread is about tracks that are one style but sound like they could go well into a mix of another style.

In the past I've managed to do loads of Dancehall/Drum'n'Bass mixes, but that's because they're quite easy styles to mix. The result is ace though. I managed to get a dub track by Spectre to overlap perfectly with M Beat's "Incredible". Then I mixed Wagon Christ into The Flamingos.

hi,

just a question since u seem to be a pro : is it possible to make mixes with no knowledge in DJ stuff, and what is the most simple (and efficient anyway) software to do so ?

It's fucking pimpsy. I can't mix fuck all using decks but you've got two options:

1. Using a program called Traktor which DJs MP3s in realtime. I'm not too sure how it's supposed to work.

2. Using Acid PRO. It's very simple to use, just load up the tracks you want, paste them into the program and then try to sync them up the best you can by using the time stretching feature. Then polish it with pitch shifts, volume slides and effects. Give it a go, I'm sure a copy of ACID isn't too hard to find.

I use Cubasis by the way (cecause it's cheap). If you're software supports VST instruments, there's this utterly fantastic free module called Sampletank (you have to pay for the full version, but you get the best sounds with the free one).
