But as much as I root for them, I think what seems an inevitable rush to praise a revivial of Skynyrdism in young culture will flash its light brightest on Kings of Leon, which has undeniably energy and sense of fun but veer in and out of listenability. But what they have is a singer -- that guy is very entertaining to listen to with his confident mumble and drawl. Could be iconic of a ruralization of mod rock.
So I'm wondering where folks fall on this -- MMJ and Kings of Leon. Who's the guiding Southern light? DBT -- way better than both, but older, more refined and more of a wine-and-cheese feast than a turkey bite off the leg.

Gotta say, though -- Kings of Leon's "Holy Roller Novacaine" is a great f'n song; competes with anything I've heard this year.
And judging from James' style and natural caveman charisma, he probably has an awful lot of peanuts in there from which to choose.

I've heard the new one, and I cannot tell you how much better this reproduces that live experience. Even if you found the first two albums to be pretty dull, I strongly recommend giving It Still Moves at least a listen.
Moral of the story: Doves positively sucked live. We were out the door before the encore.

This is a shame, I've always fancied the idea of seeing them. But I have to be honest with myself, there's a niggling voice inside that keeps saying, "The studio work just won't come off properly live".

i'm still resisting kings of leon. somehow have avoided hearing 'em, even though i'm intrigued.
ned r. has reminded me to dust off some walkabouts. i think i am going to listen exclusively to the walkabouts and dave schramm/the schramms for the rest of the week.
oh, yeah, songs:ohia - different class.

MMJ live is a completely different sound to MMJ in the studio... much more 'rock', more electric, more guitar heroics... just MORE. I love both equally, though.
